Usually go to USA or Canada. There was a time when it was so cheap but not so much now. You can still buy a detatched house in the States for well under twenty grand.
Now just stop and think for a moment. If you could blitz it for a year and have your house paid for what a difference that would make to the rest of your life!
Have a look at this as an example, these are investment properties but its the prices you need to look at. Blow your mind

Buffalo is by Niagara Falls and the Canadian Border. About two hours drive to Toronto. Rochester is quite a big city. Properties on the lake fetch a big premium.

You can see Israel, Egypt, Saudi and Jordan from that beach. The only place in the world where its possible to see 4 different countries from one spot; ................also 2 continents.

I do try to vary my holidays a lot. I couldn't go to the same place year on year like some.
This year I will be spending a week in a yurt (Mongolian style tent) in a field in Cornwall. The Eden project is nearby and a number of other quiet, laid back attractions. I like holidays to be slow, quiet affairs with plenty of natural beauty.
I thought about doing some Alex Gardiner spotting while I'm down that way. I've not yet seen one in its natural habitat ;D

It loooks grand, whos the foreigner in the pic??
Thing about UK, which is why I go abroad, is the weather here is guaranteed to be unreliable. I like guarantees weather-wise, and I get that in Egypt.
Holidays about sun, sun and more sun for me.
-
Orlando in August for us. Went to France last year and spent a day in the Disney Resort, looking forward to the Florida version this year. Even having a day in the Florida Keys for a bit of fishing fun ..... can't wait!!

What size tank? Great for work breaks, and doing ongoing admin on the move, plenty of room for both a lap top and a printer, gas already in it's own compartment, and probably some way of hooking the system through the van's existing heater.Inspired move.

Just come back from a weekend in Lynton/Lynmouth (Exmoor). Fantastic weather too.
Itinerary
Friday: Finished work at 3pm and left Bristol 4pm. Arrived Lynton 6pm, (Hotel at the top near the Victorian railway thingy) caught train thingy down to Lynmouth and had Fish and Chips and mushy peas at an outdoor cafe/restaurant washed down with a pint of Lager.
Walked round the harbour and back up to the top.
Sea view from rooftop floor of hotel across to the Gower and the Brecons and up the Channel to the highest seacliffs in England at Countisbury.
Saturday: Horse Riding on exmoor in the morning Hot in the coombes but a light breeze on the moor. Woolacombe Beach in the afternoon and the Valley of the rocks to watch the sunset in the evening. Nice little restaurant with duck salad with 2 lagers followed by a cheeseboard and biscuits and a glass of port.
Sunday: Really hot. Walk round the shops on the seafront, bought a pair of leather jeans for the motorbike in the leather/sheepskin shop down a back alley. Then walked around lynmouth up the river to watersmeet - kids splashed in the fresh water rockpools.
Drove home over the top of exmoor to Byshops Lydiard and watched the steam train shunting and leaving while eating an icecream and then home by 8 o clock.
Back to work tomorrow!
-
I envy that but i don't have the knowledge to seek such things out.My little boy (nearly nine) goes off with his uncle and family to legoland thorpe park etc because we are a bit work mad and commited saturdays.
We go on packages that are all inclusive, but what malc describes would be great. I have always found holidays a bit stessfull because i am not earning money, and have a steep climb to come back to.Now that i have a helper i'm hoping that i can do this kind of stuff, but the chances are that i won't.

lifestyle choice ;)
-
I don't just envy him, i used to trade on long marsden(the eddie kid accident happened there) where they had bull dog bashes (lots of vw people with vans that break down). I often used to think it would nice to be driving one of those clapped out campers and have a sence of belonging.
Part of me wants the winnebago too.But i know that most people who get them (think 40k nice going ian) don't use them.
-
Part of me wants the winnebago too.But i know that most people who get them (think 40k nice going ian) don't use them.
i have looked at the more traditional motorhomes, as i could sell the VW and buy something newer and more traditional
i then think, the thing will not break down, has beds for 4 ( sometimes 6 ) has a full kitchen, full heating, wow what luxury
then i think to the reason i got the VW, because when i was surfing down in cornwall as a young lad ( we were camping in a tent ) i saw a few of them and thought " 1 day i will own a nice camper ", then i think of the soulless motorhomes that hammer up and down the country , now i can see the attraction for Ian ( and other motorhomes ) i have listed them above, but for me, its not all about that
then i come back to a sticker i once saw " i would rather shove a wasp up my ar$e than sell my Vdub campervan "
i know a guy who spent 32 K on a motorhome, he takes the dogs down the woods in it, the plastic on the cushions are still intact, the cooker never been lit
a shocking waste
BUT clive
the lifestyle choice i speak about isnt the camper, its the quality time with the family, when your older and sat in slumpy hall, will you be able to look back at your time and say " i wish i had done this or that with your son "
as it stands, when i am old and i sit on my milk crate in " DIY Garage workshop " i can honestly say " i lived the dream with my kids " i personally wouldnt have done anything different ( so far ), they are only young once and its the real thing
-
nicely put matt 8)
-
how old are you matt if you dont mind me askin, i really like your lifestyle choice especially as i have my first kid on the way v soon, its how i would like to do things, balance really is the hardest thing!was just wonderin if you were young or a tad older and had been there/done it all already and now enjoy taking it slow and enjoying time with the kids?hope you dont mind all the questions! ;D

no i dont mind asking
37 years old, 38 next week :)
i have serious issues with wasting moments of life, i lived my late teens / early 20's well ( traveled the world, partied hard and enjoyed it ) then settled down and am now enjoying family life
this is our only chance with life, use it well
children are only young once and they are truely special, they bring you moments of joy that will pass far too quickly, try not to miss any of it
-
thanks mate, cant wait 11 weeks to go! so where did you learn all the diy skills??
-
i'm walking the some of the ridgeway the week of the solistice, with a little motley crew of like minded people.

i spent a while on the gold coast ( oz ) in 93, surfing and drinking ;) i bet its changed alot since then, i could see the building going up then, the gold coast is a strange place, all the prime land is owned by the japanese ( by all accounts ) the plans were for grand hotels and shopping malls
when i went in 93, it was 2 main streets, the sea front and little else, just a load of backpacker hostels behind the main road and the seat front was full of condo's and hotels
i found as you moved a little out of town you found the real gems, the beach was great though, great waves
-
just back from Olu Deniz in Turkey, was fantastic and the paragliding is not to be missed. :)
if the summer here remains as good as they say we'll be heading to north devon coast for some camping and sea kayaking in a few weeks.
-
I live on the costa del Bournemouth.
EVERY days a holiday ;)
-
My best ever holiday was a 4 month round the world trip to Singapore, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, The Cook Islands and USA. Did this in the winter of 2006 with my son. We backpacked most of trip except for USA Where we hired a car and drove to Vegas and stayed in the Excalibur for 5 nights at £30 a night.
Went to Rhodes last October but done your Spains, Greece, Portugal and Turkey that many times I'm fed up, much prefer long haul these days.
