Daniel,
my understanding is that, & I could be wrong ::), the pure water systems were developed for Silicone Valley to wash the early printed circuit boards off of the manufacturing debris because, being pure & not conducting electricity itself, it wouldn't affect the circuitry.
Irv Tucker then developed it further for his car & house cleaning service.
This link might help http://www.windowcleaninghalloffame.com/tucker.html

I went on a bwca coure re wfp (ionics)
Briefly
as said tucker pole used pure water for window cleaning.
They use to pull up at custy's house and if there was outside tap they would connect wfp with di-cannister on.
Clean windows wfp, keeping bristle's away from frame work.
If no tap then ladders.
ON course i was told craig mawlam (ionics boss man, think his now handed md role to 2nd in command)
made a visit to states and went out with tucker pole guys, he then adapted the wfp tools to what we have know, ro filters etc.
Don't know how much of this is gospel, i'd imagine all the bits already existed out there i.e ro-filters, pole brushes etc.
hope this helps if you find out more let us know
thanks lee.

Sounds like Ionics marketing talk! RO's were there well before Ionics were. ;)
Tucker actually used waterfed poles before there was such stuff like DI resin. Results must have not been great, although if they had been using rain water......
