Title: Sofa bleeds one way
Post by: Neil Williams on May 28, 2009, 07:31:18 pm
I always visit to quote for upholstery and justified this time too.
Material cotton with a combination of cream, black, brown, red in it.
The filling cover had through normal wear managed to pick up some pink colouring, this had clearly come from the internal side of the cushion covers as although the outer cover had the colours mentioned above, the inside of the covers were a constant redish pink.
I could get the inside of the covers to migrate pink onto a white towel but the outside wouldn't do the same.
Now my concern is that under normal cleaning procedures the 'pink' would decide to migrate to the outer side. (hope this makes sense).
I've asked the potential customer to supply name and telephone number for manufacturer so I can check with them what the score is.
In the meantime anyone come across this before?

Sounds like the kind of situation you might find caused by the changing humidy levels over a number of years................unstable reds being leeched into the padding which usually has a high foam content.

The cotton suites with red stripes were a nightmare some years ago as the red nearly always bled.

If in doubt don't take a gamble !

I'm not going to until I firstly get to speak to the manufacturers and get some written instructions from them on how they state it should be cleaned.
Failing that as I said to the customer (and by showing him the bleed test) it's a no go.
