I have used them for 4 years now and been great, charges can be excessive is you don't have enough in the account when standing orders are due.

Only other thing I find a pain is that you cannot make payments over the counter it has to be in the paying in machine so it won't take anything other than cheques and notes.

I agree, you can't pay in over the counter so cash point is the only way other than sending money to their head office. 6 years and never paid a penny in fees. No complaints what-so-ever.

Been with them for 6 years, only paid charges twice both times my mistake  ::)

£64 charges in 6 years not bad.

Can be a bit annoying if the cash machine is broken, and occasionally it takes a few days for them to receive postal payments. But mostly very good

I have mine with the Alliance & Leicester. Free account and you can pay cash into any PO. Cheques I put in envelopes and they are handed over the PO counter and sent safely. I don't like putting a stamp on and putting them in a Post Box.

I've never paid Abbey a penny in charges in 6 years.  My big issue with them is that they won't let you have the BACS reference numbers that you supply the customers with.  It means that it was difficult to know who had paid me sometimes.  Now with Co-op (free for FSB members).  Seems OK so far.  Not so easy to make deposits though as it must be done by post or one of four pre-selected post offices.

Abbey as in the name is going away, you guys want to hope they keep the free banking

Always consider going with the CO-OP via the FSB.

Pay in via up to 4 of your nominated post offices, and get telephone and online banking.

Once my Barclays free banking is over i will keep that account for standing order/bank transfers (as i think that should be free), and have the co-op as the paying in account.
