Yesterday I went to a house to clean a 3 seater, 2 seater, 3 double bedrooms, 2 flights of stairs and a landing in a larger post war house.
Lady shows me a settees first - both non cleanable by me due to type of leather.
Goes to the first flight of stairs - sea grass, and she tells me the landing, 2nd flight of stairs and 2 of the bedrooms were the same. Doh!
Only good thing about the above was that I explained why they couldnt be cleaned BEFORE she dug out the "instructions for cleaning" which confirmed all I had said.
The only bedroom with a "proper" carpet in was the attic conversion - so had to take hoses & wand etc up 2 flights of stairs just for 1 room.
The week can only get better.......... today I am doing a town centre club which i last did beginning of December - can you imagine what it will be like!

Joe, Cant be any where near as bad as my 9pm - 6:30am job
-
If that was last night - you must be jiggered.
NOT doing what the body classes as "normal" must really throw the body into confusion.
Ive cleaned pubs at 2am, at 5am etc but not on such a long stint as you done Ricky.
Dont know how people do night shifts - suppose to some extent they get used to it.
-
My missus works at the local hospital and they had a patient in a few years back in his 60's who had been on permanent night shift since 1963 :o
-
Think our bodies get used to anything Joe. I owned a dairy business in the 70's which meant getting up at 3am every day for 9 years.
The early start I found easy enough but when I sold that business my " clock " refused to re set and I still waken up at 2.30 am even if going to bed around 1.00 am.
I would be perfectly happy work late at / early morning but it's the knackering type of work that's available at that time and my little cardio pump is starting to labour !
Today will be better......................

Boo,i started off the week with nothing :( did a quote on friday night, but think i said something to upset the custy, siad i would use my sebo to rake out any muck and cut fur etc from her carpets, she pulled a face a me and said they were not that dirty !
Have not called me back, was due the call on monday.
Got one quote today, and just replied to an e mail about oap`s flat.
I worked nights about 10 years ago,in a plastic injection moulding factory,12pm till 8 am few hours sleep then off to work at the pub ,where i was a chef.
Dj`ing was the best though, used to be booked fri sat nights most weekends, and sometimes sundays too, didn`t get much sleep at the weekends.Couldn`t do it now, like i used to
-
One small job this evening then that's it for me rest of week unless the phone rings.
This is the quietest week I have ever had since start up.

Hi Mark,
Looks like we have a similar past, I used to work nights 10pm - 6am in a factory that did plastic injection moulding, I was actually doing the plastic extruding.
From 1998 - 2007 i was DJing Friday & Saturday nights. Throughout December i would be DJing Wednesday - Saturday. That was a killer. Working all week during the day then having about 1 1/2 break before going out DJing & not getting back till between 2.30 - 4am. 3 - 4 hours sleep then back out cleaning carpets all day.
Richie.

Yeah pretty similar ;D
I was at a company called rge engineering, used to make all sorts of stuff ,from office chair bases,to parts for washing machines, anything plastic i suppose,i hated it to be honset, was only there for a few months, and it was the only way i could get the g/f at the time to do any work !
I was more the underground sort of dj,have played in france, spain ,ireland and all over the uk,biggest venue so far was Sheperds bush empire, for the millenimum.
But have just been booked to play Dance island on july the 4th,capicity of 10 thousand, and pendulum, headining.
20 years of dance !
We used to put on a lot of free outdoor raves, never had probs with police,we were always out the way of people ish ! did one party in Huntingdon and the closest building was the police headquarters, had the chopper out that night, but still no trouble.
Started to get too expensive in the end,as gradually everyone started pulling out,so it was left down to me and a mate to run the show,on our last party we had pikies turn up wanting a cut of the donations,we called it a day then.

Hi
same here.
worked for 20 years in casinos (Croupier) and then started the cleaning biz 5 1/2 years ago. Did 8-10 hours casino (home at 5am) slept 'til 9am, worked until 7 cleaning (EOT's) saw wife for an hour then off to work again, sometimes doing 27 hours straight.
Now been fully self employed for 2 years and do not want to go back, but if needs must I would (although it would be like selling my soul to the devil and watched while he ate it in front of me!)

routine routine routine thats what night work is all about. i still do 3 or 4 nights a week and still run my cleaning biz. newbie so not flat out most days one job a day norm 2 if i am lucky. first job 10- 10 30 am normally fin about 2 depends on job obviously home by 3 clean equip go bed till 7 pm. wake up sex when mrs gets home ( i should be so lucky) then off to work at 8 pm till 2 am home at 3 sleep up at half 8. I must admit it sucks but my nights pay my mortgage so can plough my cleaning profits back in an then one day can cut back on the nights.
ps f***** up my routine this avo haven been bed.

Sounds like your setting your stall out and i think you will make a go of it as you seem to have something about you.
You can get your business up and running and even with a portable can get up to the 40k and over 50 k once you have set up..

Joe,
Envirodri system will clean seagrass. Have done so a number of times. Have even HWE with great caution and got away with it.
Neither produce 100% results but do improve the flooring to customers satisfation.
Worth getting a few yards of the stuff & experimenting with it in your workshop. Often surprising how materials are cleanable contrary to popular belief

Hi Mark,
Iv never DJed abroard. I covered venues mainly in the Midlands area but also did places like Manchester, Liverpool, Derby & London. Biggest event i played at was a party in the park in front of a crowd of about 6000 - 7000. I mainly DJed with another guy. On the occasions that we did venues such as party in the park, the other guy would do the main DJing/on the decks whilst i did the entertaining part as i was much better on the microphone. Did a bigish gig for David Lloyd health Centres for sport relief, that was awesome. Getting the crowd involved in activites to help raise money was fantastic.

I'm delighted to find so many with vaied backgrounds. I've been slagged on this forum for having done so many different things in my working life.
Personally, I'm extremely proud of my work experience as I'm sure all you guys are. Can't imagine anyone going straight into carpet cleaning.

If you find you doing ok in times of "recession" you should be fine when its over - just keep on with the marketing. The time marketing gets hard is when you are on a good role, then the temptation is to ease off - but you need to keep doing it.
