Dear All,
It is with the deepest sympathy that I have learned that John Gregory, who was taking part in activities in the sea at the Boot Camp, got into difficulties and tragically drowned.
I know you will all join with me in expressing our condolences to his family.
John was a nice bloke and a valued member of the carpet cleaning fraternity

This is simply awful tragic news.
We only saw John last month at CCDO and was his usual bubbly self.
My thoughts go out to his family and to all the guys that were there and must have felt so helpless.
It puts into perspective all the irritating, petty squabbles that go on here at times.

Same here
I met john once and have spoken to him many times on the phone.
Myself and roger only lived a short distance from him and were always on hand for giving advice and help to each other...
-
Totally shattered by this tragic news.
John has been to my place 4 or 5 times in recent months and we spoke on the phone at least once a week, sharing our problems, discussing how we can cope thro the quieter times, but always having a good laugh.
He will be missed by us all, but more so by his family to whom my thoughts are with.

Never met John, just I've never met 99% of the people on here, but he was a regular poster, so I felt I knew him just as I feel I know many who post on here.
It's a bit like being in an old fashioned pub where people would mill around and just talk, micky take and laugh a lot, often doing business while socialising.
This is a good place where strangers behave like friends and often go to great lengths to help each other.
When I logged in I was confronted by a red leather cushion and a request for opinions on the likliehood of it's restoration. Posted by John Gregory.
The " pub " will be a bit subdued for a couple of days as we wonder what to say or to whom we should say it.
I just hope Johns widow and children are not endangered by this tragedy and any insurances are honoured speedily and with dignity.
-
Truly awful news.
Rest in peace John.

Our sincere condolences go to all his family and friends. It really is a tragic loss.
For those that may have missed it, Billy Turton is collecting donations for John's family.

I'm sure it goes without saying but, out of respect for his family, we should avoid posting any further details about the actual incident itself.
Rest in peace John

Absolutely, gutted. I learned the awful news whilst doing a commercial job last night. John spent a day with me a couple of years ago, and since then he would frequently phone seeking advice, and I last saw him at the CCDO and spoke just a couple of weeks ago. I spoke to his wife last night and passed on my condolences. I can honstly say that John was one of the nicest mild mannered guys it has ever been my pleasure to meet, I took to him straight away and its just awful to know that he has been snatched away from his family like this, just as he was beginning to get somewhere after such hard initial work getting his business going.
Rest in peace John.
Dave.
