Title: Vistaprint
Post by: Steve Barnett (Carpet Care Plus) on May 15, 2009, 11:35:12 am
I just placed an order with vistaprint and at no time did I see any boxes asking me to check or uncheck, or to take any surveys.

1st time I have used them and I'm a bit concerned about the stories of people being charged monthly, but I dont think I have clicked anything that would commit me.

Anyone had any recent experience of using them ?

Steve

Never a problem and the glossy business cards are good.

Their websites are very good as well    and affordable.

About this time last year hey put a survey on and when you bought from them they had a tick box for some insurance or something can't remember what but they satrted to charge you monthly for it, I noticed it straight away, you had to tick the box to say that you Didn't want it which is the wrong way round to me! but anyway alot of people complained and they ditched it.

Prices are good because the quality is total trash. I know most carpet scrubbers are on the bread line, but come on, they are terrible and you know they are.

Matt you are right in some ways but they are easy and convinent all done while you sit at your computer, I hand out business cards all of the time so I don't go for high quality at high prices.

Its a piece of card with name, rank and serial number on it - how much do you need to spend on it so long as it looks ok, most people will stick it in their drawer or on a pin board.  ::)

We've just had 50000 flyers done with printcarrier.

This was a risky step in some ways as any real editorial control is lost. The cost was the main incentive, especially in the current climate. At just over £500 for double sided print this worked out as almost half price on our regular, local printer (for which I do feel a bit guilty)..

Whilst there were a few scary moments along the way (we opted to approve the proof prior to print and this didn't happen, despite paying for it), the flyers arrived in good time and looked the part.

On this basis I would therefore recommend printcarrier. Definitely opt to authorise the proof and speak to them along the way and I'm sure you'll be happy.

Ian the £10 proof verification is to verify the file is correct and not corrupt, it doesn't verify the flyer looks ok or anything else

I paid and got a message that the file was wrong and to resubmit it in Jpeg, if I hadn't paid the £10 they would have just printed them even though the flyer would have been illegible

I am trying to upload a pdf at the moment but when I preview it (before confirming the upload) it says there is no image there.

Any ideas?

They're not trashy either.
I use them instead of leaflets, they're easier to post and don't get crumpled.
Get the glossy ones there the best.

Hi Derek, inserted in local papers over the next four weeks (£14.50 per 1000). We have targetted specific areas via circulation figures.

It's a gamble and one that usually more than covers costs but we are looking at longer term; i.e. follow on business via recommendations etc.

In truth, anything that gets us noticed and brings a few calls has to be good.

Mike, it does give you the opportunity to confirm that the print looks OK and confirm via a check box.

When you submitted the correct file you will have seen this.

The best file type to use is PDF/X1a which is, as far as I understand, universally recognised as the printing industry standard.

Printcarriers message below: -

"Choose „File verification“ and Print Carrier will double-check your files on the necessary requirements for a excellent printing quality (i.e. right format, size, resolution, bleeding). Therefore we cannot accept any responsibility for spelling mistakes, trimming errors, incorrect folding lines or incorrect resolution etc.!"

We had issues with an error message regarding size (which we new to be correct). We resubmitted several times and the final time no error message was received, nor though were we given the option of approval. We then called and spoke to the Swadlingcote office directly. They advised at this point that we had gone to print. This was a bit of a surprise as it was without our agreement.

I told them to hold fire as we had not agreed. They had the Graphic Designer confirm all was OK and that the print would be fine, although until the flyers were delivered we were slightly nervous.

No matter though as luckily they turned out fine.
