hi,
my ro setup is at my parents place,
Will be 3 years this september.
Just noticed the little water main cover outside has been sprayed blue ???
also a few doors down from my parents place, what happens now ::)
My parents are not on a water metre at present but, it's not cheap they pay £320 a year water rates.
has this happenend to anyone else on here and what was the outcome :-[
thanks lee.

What makes you think you've anything to worry about?
-
If you go to the pavement, lift the cover and listen,.. you'll prob hear running water even if all the taps in the house are switched off. A lot of these valves were incorrectly installed years back, and there is a big effort to find and replace the faulty ones at the moment
-
just had mine done as it was leaking underground at NO cost to me lol
and it was sprayed blue

the spray paint markings are to show where work will be taking place in the coming months .

It happened to me. I needed a new stop cock in the house and the plumber couldnt find the street tap.
I had to call for my water board and they came out, found it, and sprayed it with paint.
Someone has probably lost the street tap and the water board have found it.

thanks hope, your right.
I don't mind going on water metre, trying to move at mo.
not much luck :(
when ive got my own house, not flat i would gladly go on metre, no choice i think they fit them when new house holder moves in.
just didn't want to give my parents grief from water board ::)
can they charge me back payment?
i only use 200 or less litres a day and as said been doing for over 2.5 years!
-
If they haven't metered it before then no they wont charge back payment. they have obviously decided to replace your stopcock a lot of these have really had it now and are seized up or maybe leaking and its their responsibility to maintain them. don't panic. ;)

No they will not charge you back payment, your worrying for no reason, as said the blue mark on the floor is because there is something that needs to be fixed (normally because it is leaking)
I had this myself a few months back only it took them months to fix it and that was after about 10 calls to them.
200L a day is a very little amount of water even though it looks a lot.
When you get your own place it could well be worth your mum and dad going on a meter as long as they dont have a swimming pool and or a pressure washing business ;D

cheers ian,
i am a worry guts ;D
It will be in my parents intrest,(to have water metre) i'm sure i do give them money towards their water bill to bring it down to the £200 mark, which is around what i pay £260 for 2 adults 1 child.
as said my place a flat no room for setup :(
thanks all Lee, have a good day. : ;)

I'm a Firefighter so as you can imagine I come across many water hydrants and open water sources on a regular basis. The blue paint is either, (as already mentioned) purely a visual means to let water board contractors identify the correct hydrant to repair or de-classify to whats known as a class B hydrant. This means that the hydrant is normally on an old main and in need of repair/service or in some extreme cases needs decommissioning. Sometimes where there is a large water main for eg on many industrial sites, hydrant lids are coloured Blue or light blue which gives you a good indication for firefighting purposes that the outlet of that hydrant will have a flow rate of 1500 gallons per minute or higher, but wouldn't imagine that you have one of those stuck outside your home?.... hope I haven't sent you guys to sleep , Gripper ;D
-
1500 gallons a minute you say??
hmmm, if only that water was already deionised.
-
I could do a three bed semi in three minutes at that rate I reckon. ;)
