Title: analine leather 2 seater
Post by: derek west on May 09, 2009, 03:48:52 pm
just at the guessing stage at the mo, but on monday i'm going to look at a leather 2 seater which has faded on the arms and seats.
also white patches on it.
she said it scratches so guessing its analine of eek! nubuck. she said its italian.
she either wants it repairing or colour changing from blue to brown.
can this be done?

if i get this job it might be a trip to ltt, anyone fancy chipping in for a days workshop?

You can bring the colour back to a certain degree by applying aniline dye, but if its gone white with direct sunlight  you will struggle to bring it back. There is only a certain amount of 'colour' in the dye so you can only build it so far(unlike pigment)
The leather will only absorb so much till it sits on the surface and will just rub off.
Andy is working on a stronger dye but it has its own drawbacks in ease of application so I believe, so is not ready for general release.
For the reasons above you wont change it from blue to brown without pigmenting it.
