what a shame four kids too.
-
I think its the same window cleaner that has been mentioned on another forum and the sad thing is that the guy had a wfp system and ditched it because of customers complaints this has cost the man his life and it could have been avoided
Still a tragic loss for the family
-
they should ban ladders .
-
I think its a wake up call to us all.
-
personally id rather posts like that were banned

Thats really sad news.
-
Sad story.
Wonder how long it will be before a 60ft wfp crashes down and seriously injures somebody. Just a thought ????

I don't know why I post on here with stupid comments like this but I can't stop myself.
This same person gave the impression that wfp-ing downwards off a 20 foot drop was a solution to doing the job. Idiot

That is very sad news and I feel for his family, and only hope the other guys learns from a shocking mistake.

A 40 ft pole fell on my head this time last year, and gave me concusion. but the worst thing was i also got post-concusion syndrome which took over 8 months to get better, and i can tell you it was an awfull thing to go through, headaches which made me almost blind and sick 3-4 times a week every week.

Sad news about the w/c dieing.
Lee - what were the circumstances? Was it left against a wall and fell or what? I know I had a ladder blow over in the wind when I was trad. and fortunately it didn't hit anything. (Left me stranded on an extension roof, mind!)

I'm sure you did feel awful after that happening to you, but not as awful as the poor guys family is feeling now. You're alive to tell the story.............. and that proves point.
All sympathies go to his family.
If it is right that because of some customer complaints he went back to ladder work, then I hope those customers have learnt from this too. A few spots maybe or wet on the ground for a while? No contest against life.
As for all the ladderworkers left in the whole wide world, be clever. ONLY use ladders as a last resort. Whether that ladder climb will earn you £5,000,000 or £50 it isn't worth risking your life. Dead...... you earn nothing.
As for reality now in this case, lets hope his insurances pay out to ease the burden on his family.

Wise words Helen. :(

Please start another post if you want to discuss the rights and wrongs of wfp/ladders, please show some respect to the guys family who could be reading this post.
I am going to delete the off track posts

It fell as one of my staff who was using it near me tripped on an uneven pavement and caught me on the top of the head.

I recently bought a round of a wc who is retiring after 32 years, he had a nasty fall 4 years ago, he still limps and is in constant pain.
One of the customers I took dropped me yesterday for a ladder man because she prefers the old way - people are just too selfish and ignorant.
The most gauling thing is she must be aware of the healthand safety side of things as they own and run a very large company.

Lets leave the rights and wrongs of ladders on the other post

to the guys who have had their WFP fall on them, did you go out and buy hard hats afterwards?
When I clean with my WFP on floors higher than first floor I always use my hard hat, as its not just the pole that could fall on you, but poorly maintained window sills and frames could break and fall, so hard hats are a must.
rather look a fool, than recieve injuries and be out of work for weeks.

LOL.....i wear padded underwear as well just in case i fall on my arse when it's windy.... ;D
-
Yes I am serious Malc, most industrial jobs require you to wear hard hats..
Matt
-
I thought this post was about a window cleaner who had died???
He obviously ignored safety issues!
to the people that ridiculing the idea of hard hats obviously dont take health and safety that seriously either!!!
Matt
p.s. Malco 1st floor is the one above ground floor lol so I wear hard hat on second floor above.
-
I know you were YWCS
just cant believe people on here going on about the safety of ladders. then laughing at the idea of using safety with poles.
Matt
-
Matt....sorry if you thought i was taking the pee....well i was but sorry anyway... ;D
What i dont understand is when cleaning above first floor how anything could really come down on you as when i clean 2nd,3rd and 4th occasionally i am at a certain distance from the building that nothing could fall onto me without me noticing...
Perhaps i do it wrong then... :-[
-
Daniel a friend of mine was using a pole and the plastic angle snapped and the stock came crashing down hit the sill on the first floor window and only just missed him. he was standing several metres away from the building.
