why just tops, if you have soft water do the whole lot, all you need is a di vessel. the best backpack is the shurflo, others will say the wcw backpack is good, also it is a bit cheaper.
you can do this with a shurflo

It depends entirely on what type of work you have or are likely to get and what vehicle you have. If you give some idea of the type of work near you I'm sure the sensible posters will help where they can.

Hi sfwc

I take it you already have provisions for making your water Pure. I would recommend a Trolley system if you dont want to go down the van route.

I have all three systems and all have there place.

1. Would be Van System
2. Trolley
3. Backpack

All depends on your budget.

Ionics were doing a deal for a Trolley set up with pole and a day on the BWCA course at a good price. Then you can be one of the elite and use there logo ;D

Cant see it on the www but it's in their catalogue

Believe me.  better to spend money on a 100metre reel and shurflo and little difference in cost.
Ive two full units gathering dust .
On the offset what a great idea but after a week of use you need a week laid down on a solid floor to try fix your back , dont matter if your built like arnie swartz it hurts.

The batteries dont last a full day niether so you'll need a second one.
Your back gets soaked no matter if your in waterproof.

This  is only my ipinion but i'd think most folk would agree.

I run my WC business with a VW sharan, a backpack & 25L containers.

It does take a little longer as you have to keep filling it up. I have the WCW backpack which i personally find great for my workload. I keep it charged up.

i dont understand why people do this, if your gonna put a backpack on a sack truck why not just get a trolley? you'll hold more water, i have a 50 lt omnitrolley its even gone in a renault clio when had to, and i get 5 days work from one battery charge. and if your in a soft water area then this is the single biggest reason GET THE ONE WITH THE DI on it!!!!!!!! fill with water straight from custies tap no carrying barrels, simple EASY! ;)

TROLLEY

So Andy do you just wheel your trolley up the garden path, through the gate, avoiding the rabbit hutch etc etc. Of course a trolley makes sense if you have no obstacles, but what about some flexibility? Personally I carry the backpack when access is awkward (and I hate it, it's hard) and I put it on the ground with extension pipe when access is good. If I wanted a trolley, I'd get one that I put the backpack on when needed, not a hard and fast system. It's all about flexibility and your own jobs.

I have hardly any problems with access at all, and if i come across something awkward i just fetch a hose reel from car, that happens max twice a week at mo, but thats my work and it works for me

That's my point :) It's what works for you and your jobs. To say "i dont understand why people do this, if your gonna put a backpack on a sack truck why not just get a trolley? " is a sweeping statement. I tried a sack truck for a while and it was a hassle with my work. Maybe I should get better work ;D

i still cant though, i cant imagine holding less than 50 litres, i cant see the point in using a backpack unless it just comes out the van every now and then for difficult access stuff etc, but if you want a portable system i would go for a trolley, hold more water and it would suit this guy in soft water area to have di on would make life really simple, then i would suggest he covers his bases for access issues by either getting a backpack as well or a length of hose, ?
sorry mate not tryin to sound funny jus not seein the backpack way of life, looks like a big strain on body etc, then people say jus stick it on a sacktruck and that makes me think you might as well have a trolley :)

the backpack can be 3 in one, if done correctly, carry the bpack on a trolley, easily  removed the bpack for hard to accsses areas where the trolley cant reach, the backpack can be kept filled so if needed can be used, the trick is sit the back pack on top of the 25ltr water container, the bpack sucks the water diredtly from the containers, this way your not refilling at all, only if you use the bpack itself, look at the link i put up

yes it does, i did mine diffrently, drilled holes in the plastic casing brought 2 bits of hose into them, then added snap conectors, this keeps the same circulation, but when you take them apart the water never leaves the packpack, you just keep an extra 4 ft length of hose with the matching snap female connector, this will be your permenent suction hose,

heres a slide show showing how to modify the shurflo backpack, so you only need to use 25 ltr water containers, keeping your backpack full, so as to use only when you need it
