Title: Please help me spend my £1500
Post by: eddiemac on May 08, 2009, 01:28:11 pm
Please can anyone tell me, if you were looking at setting up a domestic carpet cleaning company and had £1500 to spend on machine and chemicals, what would you buy and where would you get it. I am favouring prochem machines.

Something like this from someone with more feedback:  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mytee-speedster-450psi-carpet-cleaning-machine_W0QQitemZ160333261168QQ
and spend the rest on marketing.

And the rest.
Another 5lt sprayer
Double Clean
Powerburst
Ultrapac Renovate
Upholstery tool    acts as a backup as well to hand tool
A cheapo 2nd hand wand again as a backup
Remember if anyone item of equipment fails then you won't be able to finish it unless you have a spare
and you will look foolish in front of the customer.
Having said that once you have everything in place you rarely have to buy any more equipment for a long while
as the gear tends to last.

E-bay would be your best bet with that budget - there are a few set ups on there at the moment including hoses and wands.

A couple of Ninja's and at least 3 Prochem's.

Ok here's a deal for you.

3 years into carpet cleaning I now have a Truckmount and two portables. I was going to sell my machine that got me started and made me money (a Ninja) on ebay. But if you are interested I will sell the ninja to you for £500 with hoses but no tools. And you can have soem chems as well. ::)

More importantly if you come and collect it (Bristol way) I will show you how to use it, give you some leaflets of mine for ideas, loads of marketing material and some ways to build your business quickly.

PM me if you are interested.

Sounds like a good offer Mike - worthy of serious look.

Tools - wand for about £180 and hand tool £100 - unless anyone has anything 2nd hand.

Could be interested Mike, is the ninja as good as the prochem powermax.

I started in the carpet cleaning industry nearly 20 years ago and im one of the few lucky guys that started with a truckmount.  Over the years i have slated portables as they have no wheere near the power of even a basic truckmount HOWEVER, over the past 3 years i have used a few portables & the Ashbys Ninja impressed me.  Good solid machine, enough grunt to do a decent job.  £500 for that kit sounds like a good deal to me and im sure that someone on this forum could part with a carpet wand & upholstery tool at a good cheap price if you were to ask nicely.

Richie.

I'm on the Merlot already  ::)

It's the basic spec ninja 135psi, not the most powerful, certainly the Speedster has more grunt.

If you said you had 2.5k to spend I would point you in the direction of Cleansmart. Not because of the kit but because of the backup and marketing package supplied.

I'm a firm believer the true 'Fastrtrack' is a guy with a mission, a crappy portable and  solid marketing plan.

What are the motors in that Mike - I presume 2x something but what? 2 stage or 3 stage.
Title: Re: Please help me spend my £1500
Post by: Mike Osbourne on May 08, 2009, 06:29:27 pm
Hi Joe

They are 3 stage. In fact one is a bit iffy and I have a new one from woodbridge that I will put in before it's sold.  :)

It also has the hot solvent kit. Most people don't bother with it. Others use it on high value work like delicate tapestries, stage curtains and rugs etc.

Eddie

It is quite a good deal if you have your heart set on new equipment but you only get 1 year warranty on these things so if you can get your hands on a good 2nd hand machine at the sort of money Mike is talking about, then you should give it some serious consideration.

You could then use the balance of your budget and spend it wisely on marketing.  You will soon discover that this is far more important than the type of portable you buy.

www.hygcare.co.uk for my money
with machines from only £440 and chems from only £15 call them on 01845255635 or their rep russ on 07800769562
they will help and advise they helped me call me on 0789108738 or my mate allen 07841677267
like me allen has used lots of machines and rates hygicare's range as the best value for money he has seen
Title: Re: Please help me spend my £1500

Simon

That machine has a very low powered pump and only holds 7 / 8 litres which would put it in the Numatic George league or thereabouts.

If you want to talk value for money but with reasonable capacity, 135 psi pump and well made the Sabrina Maxi represents excellent value and is capable of achieving a decent result

Can't compete with triple vac's and has less grunt than Mike's ninja but compared to the hygicare machine it's no contest

I would seriously consider the Ninja if I were you

The link is "broke", but to be honest at £440 I could not recomend as a main machine - spotter maybe - and thats without seeing it!

Post by: richie on May 08, 2009, 09:46:53 pm
The machine Mike is selling is the same Ninja that we have but ours doesnt have the solvent kit.  The pump is only 135psi however it does have a higher flow rate this compensates for the lower psi of the pump.  I have cleaned some pretty minging carpets with ours & have some really good results.

At the moment I am still thinking of taking the prochem route, which comes complete with a one day training course. So far though have had no feedback as to how good the Prochem machines are. Probably looking at the sx2100 powermax to kick off, any thoughts?

Hi Eddie

Prochem machines are reliable but the range is a bit limited, howver not a bad starting machine.

Are you going for one of two vacs, the latter will give you much better performance.

Cheers

Doug

I started of with a powermax and still use it for top floor flats ect its a good porty if you buy it you will still have to buy the heat & run heater to and thats about £400 if you can afford it you are better buying the Powerflight 1350 its a great porty with plenty of heat and psi.
Title: Re: Please help me spend my £1500
Post by: eddiemac on May 09, 2009, 06:46:27 pm
Hi Darren
Do you have to have the heater or can you just use hot water.
Title: Re: Please help me spend my £1500
Post by: Darren O on May 09, 2009, 07:16:53 pm
Eddie on some jobs you do there wont be any hot water and even if there is hot water if you have the Heat & Run on it makes the water a lot hotter at the wand.

Eddie I'd go with Darren's comments as he says he as got the said machine and still useing it to this day. So that sounds like the kit to go with.

When you have bought your machine give me a call and I'll take you out and run you thought the pro's and con's, Hose wise don't buy too much as you will see when you get here I have enough vac and solution hose in 1 1/2" and 2" to run to the coast.
Same with upholstery tools save your money and wait till you have tried a few and again there are enough here to choose from.

there are plenty of bargins on e-bay good luck with your bidding.

Dave

Hope to see you soon.

The lowest I'll accept for the CFR is £250 as it needs a top filter were it enters the tank. This can be purchased from Amtex for a reasonable price.
