Title: which camcorder
Post by: derek west on May 06, 2009, 04:41:42 pm
not expecting many replies to this, but before i go and get a pro to do my promo video, thought i'd give it a bash myself, ive got 4 commercial jobs coming over the next 10 days so i can get some good footage. i only wanna spend between £100 and £200 quid on a camcorder but am confused by what would be best for a simple promo video.
if anyone has any help on whats the best camcorder for that budget price then let me know.
or any good editing software thats knocking around.
couple of mins of video footage coupled with some before and after pics thrown in, a music track in the background and a voice over comentary is all i need it to do.

help!

Derek,

Have a look at this one - looks okay and is a good price too.

cheers for that mike.
unfortunately the reviews say its got poor indoor quality (picture wise). i think thats why i probably will have to spend a bit more. there loads in argos for under £200 but ive no idea which would be best. think i'll pick a few then go onto that site you just showed me and read the reviews, sounds like an excuse to crack open a few, sit back and read to i can't focus ;D
cheers again mike

Why dont you phone the uni in liverpool as am sure some students there will be glad of the hands on experience of helping.

It also goes on there portfolio.

And they get the experience.

You wont have to clean the uni.

Just give the the students a few quid and i think there is a board on the uni web site to get the people you need???

Its worth a try as  guy i did some cleaning for hired them to do some design on clothes etc..

No worries Derek,

If you see any that you fancy go to this website to see what it's like. They've got most things reviewed here

http://www.trustedreviews.com/camcorders/.

You can spend many hours on this site so you better get plenty of tinnies in.

I'm happy with my Panasonic SDR-S26 £199 from Amazon - records onto SD card so you can just film, put the card in the computer and watch or edit.
It's good indoors too with just the lights on.

As for editing software, just use windows movie maker, which is included in xp and vista.

Just to add to that, you will have a pig of a time with a MSOFT multi media product if your camera records in .MOV / Quicktime format. Can't think why  ;)

Derek when you get your camcorder you will need editing software. Windows has its own (Windows movie maker) but its basic and if Im honest pretty buggy! I recommend Power Director which is excellent. You can do a multitude of things with it including pro looking transitional effects and it has a whole host of editing features!

Have a look here...

panasonic sdr-s26 in red.
cheers for the help mike.

this one
zoom is great but hard to keep still even on a fixed object, but it is 70x zoom.
easy to use, make sure you get a high quality sd card.
not brill in dim lighting but as i found out, anything under £500 and your gonna struggle anyway.

got some great footage of me and my worker and all though struggled at first, i now find it easy to get onto youtube. created using sony vaio story maker.

£249 from curries if your interested, i'm sure its cheaper on the net but i needed mine asap so curries it was.

its as small as a normal camera so fits in ya pocket.

i would recomend this camcorder but  ive never used any others.

Derek

I have a Sony DCR-SR75E 60GB HDD and its terrific! Cost me just over £300 and worth every penny. As ive said before Windows movie maker is ok but very limited when you see what 'professional' editing software packages can do! Power Director is easy to use with a little practise and can produce material in high quality AVI or DVD if you want to burn your stuff on to disk which is what I presume you want to do???

If I was you Id forget windows movie maker and get something more professional.

just done another one but it won't be in search yet.

the first one?
type in "affordable cleaners carpet cleaning".
should be top, i think the start picture is someone cleaning stairs.
when its running you should see some fat git in a pink jumper.
and a skinny guy that looks like me, thats brian, he's my dogs body ;D

any comments will be laughed at, cos its my first attempt, so i don't give a poop.

looked at the 1st one but yes with a lil fine tweaking and your looking good
nice music
smooth and calm
maybe to long in between txt to visual result

you already know some ( web guy ! )  that can pro edit your vids and give you some tv commercial type style to your pro mo vids .
yes its a great idea and not that many would try this marketing hook
but I would of kept it close to my chest till you had pulled enough ££££
you need to get a list of the prequirement managers in your local area

steve
it won't tuck in, and ive just had a kfc so might need a bigger one. ;D

i'll be honest i didn't really do much, the software does it all for ya.
the first one was done with vaio story maker, just import the clips and hey presto it merges them all for ya, just type in your comments and its done.
the second one (done with just pictures) was done with windows movie maker, bit harder but still the same process.

hoepfully john will help me out and i'll have a better one next week when i film the pub job tomorrow morning, practice makes perfect, so they say.

derek

ps... the camera adds 10 pounds and there was a lot of cameras pointing at me ;D

steve
when i get it right it will go on my home page and auto load as soon as someone lands there, i'm also gonna do a longer one incorperating everything about affordable cleaners and put them on dvd to be sent to commercial clients. worth a try, i think its very hard to approach commercial work and something like this might just delay them making a trip to the waste paper basket. at least its harder to shred ;D

worth a shot i think.

derek

ps..
ricky
i was watching some other carpet cleaning vids on you tube and your addy went across the screen ;D
guessing youve got contents management on in your google adds.

If you embed it on your landing page you will find your bounce rate goes down. This then adds to your ranking potential.

Of course the main reason to do it is to get attention and hopefully the content will entice them to call you.  ;)
