Don't ask me, my motivation often goes out the window. New jobs motivate me and new customers too. It's the bad, non paying variety that drag me down. New equipment helps too (for about a week).
-
My main motivation is paying the mortgage, etc..
-
Motivation is building the business to a level that I hope is about 35 customers away...then start working on getting rid & replacing some of the houses/customers I really do not want.
Dont you just have some houses that when you turn up every x weeks you just hate doing?....I must have around 20 of those...so I would love to spend the rest of 2010 replacing those.
But day to day motivation is knowing that when I am finished with my planned work...I can go home and be a lazy bugger which I find I am very good at ;D.
And thinking about it...is'nt it nice knowing that we are in a industry that is reletively safe from the complete idiots that seems to run the world....bankers, politicans, insurance companies...
I had a nice half day today...no more work until Tuesday....
Have a great weekend everyone..
Dave.

Look at Roy's post count - now look at mine - I've posted about 4 x the amount he has - yet he is about 4 x more wise than me on window cleaning matters!
Listen to his advice!

I am now in my 50s and have worked for other people for many years . The motivation I have is when I want to finish I do . I think I will work more but when I have had enough I go home . Its part of being your own boss

sherriff officer at the door with a court order for non payment of council tax motivated me ;D pulled my finger out after that and aimed never to be in that position again ;)

Aim for something would be what I would say, if you have nothing to aim for you have no reason to push yourself..

Set yourself goals. My wife is a professional speaker and also does goal setting workshops for businesses as well as another business and mine too (accountants bills are huge)
Anyway.... where was i .... oh yeah .....
If you dont set goals you dont have anything to work to / work for (apart from the living part). Set yourself 1,3,6,12 monthly goals that are achieveable (maybe with a little graft - but nothing thats near impossible). Even if you dont hit it on the date you set i bet you wont be far off.
At home we have a vision boards of things we want at various stages (the board is 9ft x 4ft). At the moment its taken up by a big plan my wife has of one of her businesses (will get a pic up) We have others dotted around the house we can see on a daily basis.
If you find an insirational quote that makes you think YEAH !!!! print it out and put it somewhere you look every morning before work.... it will motivate you.
Things ive knocked off my boards are a cleaner, my own business, motorbikes, holidays & even customers.
My goal for March next year is to get a van.
Within the next two months i want my own gutter vac
I have a yearly goal of going to see my mum each August (she and my sister live in the channel islands)
These are not MASSIVE goals, but things I work to that keep my motivation up. When i have a bad day i look at my boards and the dates and think if i carry on like this i wont get it ... makes me more motivated because i really want these things.
Hope my rant helps someone

Did you get that from Amway by any chance ??

JP...that sounds great...boards with achievable goals and that seems to be the key here...I think that sometimes as humans we set our selves goals that just are not 'do-able'....
This year my one of mine was to earn the same as last year given that we were entering this time of the bankers not being able to bank and getting caught out ;)
Have a great weekend
Dave.

Nope that wasnt from Amway - never had anything to do with the company and neither has the mrs. All that came straight from what i have learnt from my wife

setting goals is a great thing a sonc eyou tick them off then you get sense of achievement.
i use dto do this in my las tplac eof work for task i had to complete day to day.
also the other year when i was unwell my doc and i had a program for me which would meani set goals every week to do.
these were "have to's" & "want to's" Have to's are things you need to do in you r life, i.e go to work etc and want to's ar ethings that give you enjoyment.
Neve rhave to man "have to's in your life as it only gets you down. want to's also need to be in there and can be as simple as i want to relax for an hour a day something a ssimple as that.

Don't think so Mike, I was at the dizzy heights of 12% when I did that stuff. I actually earned some money over here with the showerheads. They saved loads of money on water bills (Relatevly expensive here) so I sold hundreds too Gyms and Sport clubs.
I still find the IBS books and "thinking / self brainwashing" works well for me in my business. Really helped me with canvassing and keeping custies sweet.
I don't know if Amway are still big but I would like to get the toothpaste and that mouthwash they sold. I'll look on fleabay :)

My motivation is to do the work I have to in order, to make time for other things.
The other things at the moment is getting my boat ready for the coming fishing season.
I have a list of priorities of the other things I want to do. The problem is when new priorities come out of the blue and need my attention first.

Amway are still going, though not as common as they once used to be.
