Here is one for you... I have been asked by my bank manager of all people... will either RO or the resin pureify sea water. He is worried about a possible Hose pipe ban in this years long hot summer as advertised on yesterday's breakfast tv . :D

interesting question would like to know answer to that. i would imagine it would purify it but filters and resin would run out much faster, but thats just a guess

He will require a desalination unit, which uses the same principle as reverse osmosis but with a very high pressure pump and desalination membranes.
The TDS of sea water is usually between 20,000 and 50,000 depending on which sea the water is drawn from.
The cost of the unit will vary from £5000 upto £40,000 for a domestic type model.
DI will not purify sea water as the solids in the water (salt) are too great.

Tell him not to worry. Long range weather forecasting is just as accurate as long range financial forecasting.
You can also tell him that gardens and water are a metaphor for businesses and money.
Have no sympathy with bank managers.

PS:
The "Glossary of Salt Water" published by the Water Quality Association classifies water as follows:
Fresh: <1,000 ppm TDS
Brackish: 1,000-5,000 ppm TDS
Highly Brackish: 5,000-15,000 ppm TDS
Saline: 15,000-30,000 ppm TDS
Sea Water: 30,000-40,000 ppm TDS
Brine: 40,000-300,000+ ppmTDS
PPM: Parts per million
TDS: Total Dissolved Solids

All sounds a bit fishy to me..

I think if theres a hose pipe ban there will be uproar with over 160,000 wfp wc not too pleased, I know a lot of big local companys had this issue once and put the councils straight back in there place, they will just carry on working regardless.

You're in the Flint/Cheshire/Wirral area aren't you big Jay?
If you get a lot of your water from North Wales I can't see a hose pipe ban for you this summer. What's the history of Hose Pipe Ban's in your neck of the woods?
-
I'd take it all with a pinch of salt!
-
I think the last ban was in about 1995 or 1966 I think ;D

drought orders are as i understand it the only time,
where water board can impose restrictions,
i.e when were cueing up int the street with a bucket for our water.
if this happen i go back on laddare, go to teco's and buy a 5ltr bottle of mineral water £2?
they are not going to stop me earning a living it's just all hype.
In 06 when we come close to drought order i still had customers still poking hose pipes in side of plant life with hoses running.
to me these posts are the same as are ladders still legal?
nothing is worded 100% blk and white all can be enterepred differntly.
Coca cola waste 1000 or it maybe 10,000 of litres of water in the production of coke
but i bet no harps on at them.
we use water in a commercial basis.
I think it was shinner who answered his customer when prompted
how is it you carry on wfp when i can't water my lawn ??? ???
answer : your home won't be re-poessed if you don't use water ;D
WHERE ARE YOU SHINNER?
every summer we get onto hose pipe bans
we can't work in good weather or bad weather ;D
when can we ;D
-
We could be walking to France if there's a drout then ;D

Yes it will. Thats what RO was invented for.

as long as you have a meter fitted and you are a legit business they cant restrict your trade by imposing a ban on you that would stop yoou earning a living it would be illegal
-

Chris
at the end of the day if theres not enough water to go round then some things have to give, this would include car washes etc.160,000 wfp users?i take it your meaning worldwide and the hosepipe ban which will inevitably come in more and more if the governments take on climate change continues will only affect wfp users in the uk
