Title: New RO reccomendations - Another split RO later
Post by: Blue Frog Systems on May 01, 2009, 08:21:09 am
Well the casing has popped and split on me AGAIN. Luckily i was there to clean it up.

Im guessing that RO-Mans statement of tested to 100psi isnt true and that it just cant handle that much pressure.

I should be getting some money soon which we were going to spend on a holiday. My lovely wife has agreed I can buy a new RO (a decentone)

Ive got about £600 and 30psi / 2 bar pressure. What can you suggest ? Dont want to spend all of it really, but would like a few options to think about.

Thanks

JP

HF-5 4040, champ housing, 20" pre-filters and fittings = about £500 - £600

Are you saying you only have 30psi pressure yet the casing still split ???

I have a shurflo pump running it at 100psi (ro-man says thats tested to)

Yes its just the casing thats split. Know there not much, but when they split they make a mess. Luckily ive been infront of the RO both times. If it would have split in the night or while im out the house would be flooded.

Thanks Alex & pingu, will take a look into them now  :)

This is the same setup as mine more or less and with 30psi or so it would be perfect for you to.

I run mine the same way with a 100psi shurflo and no problems, are you using a pressure gauge to make sure the pressure really isn't going over 100psi?

Are you producing any water before it splits? Sounds like a blockage or wrong connection problem there.  ???

It also sounds to me like it`s plumbed in wrong the pressure is more than likely backing up and splitting it,did you put the membrane in the right way round the tape on the end normally green is the last thing to go in the houseing.

Pressure not going above 100psi

Yes i am producing water before it splits. Did a week before the first time it happened. now about 6 days later

Im sure the membrane is in the correct way. The two small black seals go in first and at the opening end there is white tape and one big black seal.

What hoses are you using on the outlets of the RO ie 1/2 3/8 or normal hosepipe.

Outdoor tap -> hoselock -> normal hose pipe -> hoselock -> strainer -> pump -> john guest -> RO

Is the hosepipe my problem ?

Why do you have the strainer.

Am I right in thinking you have a very small 50gpd unit? If so maybe you are asking too much from it with the booster pump too. Why not upgrade to the 300gpd unit?
What kind of pump are you using - I thought shureflow pumps were normally 12v?

Shop advised a strainer.

Im running a 75GPD - its a 100 psi shurflow powered by a 12v car battery

Have got some money on the way, but will be as far away as a month till it comes. My wife has said i can get a 4040 bless her.

I`ve got lost here sorry i thought you were using a 40x40 lol,i reckon you`ve got to much pressure for that RO unit a 40x40 would be able to cope.

Yeah would seem that 100psi is too much. Have found a page that says 60psi for under 300GPD and 100 for over. DAM  IT !!

My advice if money is tight would be to see if you can upgrade to the 300gpd from ro.man then you can probably utilise some of the parts you have already. The 4040 units shown on here whilst excellent only produce the same water but faster and at higher cost including higher servicing costs. I would spend my money on better poles and brushes etc. first then if your business rockets then go for a 4040 if you think you'll need it.

im averaging about 6 - 7 houses a day using 25L or there abouts per house.

I want something that i dont have to mess with as much as i am with this. It takes so long to get enough water. I need something to produce quickly as everytime the washer is on my water system is off.

Its taking a toll on my relationship to be honest. Im spending so much time checking the water, making sure ive got enough, doing quotes, going out knocking, doing the actual work. Just want something that i can leave to it.

Have invested in another water butt for storage now, so that should take some pressure.

I will have the money for the 4040 system soon. Im sticking at this and want to get a really good round going. I dont want to end up getting a 300GPD only to find this time next year that i need a 4040.

At the moment im using the family motor and will be looking at getting a van early next year. Just dont want 2 big expenses in one go.
