I wouldn't have an upright tank in my van, not stable enough for me.

Best configuration for stability is a flat tank laid lengthways.

Thanks for the reply Alex  ;)
I have to disagree with you in a way Alex, I have both and the upright seems far better for stability, cant feel the upright but the flat lenghtways rolls front to back when you break half full. I am not saying your wrong just what from what I have and feel so thats 2 opinions. i'm still  :-\ but would love to hear from people that have tanks width ways in vans to see what they same, but any feedback is welcome...

Anyone else ?

I have a 650 ltr upright the width of the van in a peugeot expert hdi
Its ratchet strapped to the caged bulkhead frame behind the seats
It does'nt seem to adversly effect the handling, but is a lot more sloshy half full, what the manufacturers consider "baffles" on these tanks is a joke, however I am soon to be ordering a custom built layflat for this very reason and to create more room for weekend use of my van as it is my only form of transport.

my 650 layflat made the van move more than my 1000 litre layflat does. don't know why. my 500 upright in my other van has movement.

I agree with the "what the manufacturers consider "baffles" as they are rubbish IMO.
someone could clear up if they mass produced a properly baffled tank like wydale, I guess the cost just out weighs it because most dont say anything and still with whats available ::)

In the past I have used cut-up pieces of cheap drain pipe as baffles, when I had a 1000 litre IBC

This will because the tanks you are using are not fully baffled. A fully baffled lay flat tank will always be more stable.

A custom made fully compartmentalised 600 litre tank would be about £350-£400 delivered.

If you get one from the guy alex recommends/uses you can have it fully customised to your particular van, so maikng the best use of the space you have, without wasting any.

You can also have storage areas built on top or around if needed etc..  Also pump and  controller can be fixed...

I only know this as I looked into it extensively a while ago....  The guy know's what he's talking about!

Properly baffled 600ltr tank from www.plasticwatertanks.co.uk,i`m quiet surprised at the way your tank has been installed Ian actually i`ve always said it dosen`t look that secure being positioned that way.I have an upright because i had to have 1 to go in the frame i had but when i change vans i will go for a flat tank next time because it`s safer far more room for storage on top and makes more use of the floor.

If you was meaning me when you said Ian, I have a flat tank in one van a layflat in other, the flat waste a hell of a lot of scapce and the way the upright is, same goes.

hence my questions on this.
I am looking into the custom tank, my problem with them is the fixing of it to the van, I have some heavy buly things being added as fixings and am limited for space. lay flat just to much waste of space and from what I have found I do not like the rocking from them when half full, my up right does not do this half as much.
maybe I should get an upright custom made with correct baffles and cure the problem, what annoys me is the so called tanks over 300L don't seem to fit the job they are made for. maybe everyone here sign a form and sent it to makers and make them listen, 1000's use there tanks.

Alex, if this is up your sleeve then bring it on and make yourself the main supplier  ;)

If you have a flat tank and it`s say 14" high you lose no room hardly at all lol how can you say you lose room, all you`ve lost is that low level space. With an upright you simply just lose that space you have no room to store on top with a sheet of ply etc.

Our new system tanks will answer all of these issues.

NWH that would be fine if what I wanted to put on top would be ok, it will not as it weighes to much, as I said I have both, and flats take to much floor space and putting them sides ways in van would worry me as I have it length ways and it rocks front to back half full when stopping, i'm looking for a solution to space and safety
