Here's an interesting one for you to comment on !!!!!
Talking to a carpet fitter with a few decades experience of fitting, it is his belief that cleaning carpets damages the carpet itself and makes it get dirtier in the long run.
Obviously not my opinion. But it makes me think we are up against it, when some carpet fitters are saying cleaning is not a good thing to do.
-
he would say that. Ignore him >:(

No you should replace them when they get dirty ;) He would say that wouldn't he.
Is he an old codger? The idea that carpet get dirtier used to be true due to resoiling with shampoo, but decent equipment and modern chems mean thats a thing of the past.

Bet you hes a strugling carpet fitter you should have just laughed at him ;D

A new custy made a comment like "Well that's it now, I suppose my carpets will get dirty now!" The quizzical look on my face should have said it all really..... But I had to explain in a nice way that he was talking Sh**e! ;D

That's because he has no idea of the chemistry involved. We know about acid rinses, pre-sprays, range of fibres and understand how to stop this from occuring. His idea comes from the lower end carpet cleaners and the hire market because there it can be true. The gentleman needs educating and it's important when it comes up in conversation we explain the difference. There is a really poor carpet fitter in my area who is still around, I always know his work ::) Not all fitters are the same and he should know that.

My best referral source is a local carpet retailer. I've done their place and I have done their friends who live in Taunton. Apparently you can't get a decent CC down their for love nor money ;D Only joking guys. :)

Unfortunately this a common notion held by many people and I believe one of the main reasons the majority of people don't have their carpets cleaned.
A lot of it, as has been said is a throwback from the 60s and 70s when people used to use the Bex Bissel to shampoo the carpet which left it in a sticky mess and attracted even more dirt.
Coupled to this the cleaners who don't know what they are doing and using under powered or clapped out equipment and people in the carpet trade who honestly believe that it is detrimental to clean them then it is an uphill struggle to convince people otherwise.
You still get doctors telling Asthma sufferers to take out their carpet and I come across surveyors all the time who don't know how to dry buildings.
Basically the world is full of people who don't have a clue.
