Cold water alone will not do it.
You are best using steam to remove the gum.
Are you cleaning the entire area as well as removing the gum?

Steam gun removes it all but you need to spray a small amount of solvent on the area to remove the stickyness. John

If you use saturated steam there is no need for any chemicals and it removes the black marks sometimes left by old chewing gum.

If you are using 'dry' steam then you will definately need the solvent though and this method can leave the black marks behind if the gum is particularly old.

Never ever pressure wash tarmac after you've cleaned the gum off as it uncovers even more

I was under the impression we were talking about removing chewing gum from a hard surface, removing from a carpet or tarmac are entirely different.

I have an osprey steam m/c that once heated you then press a button and it adds the chemical that breaks down the residue, anyway you would'nt use a pressure washer indoors ?
