Excuse me for being rather backwards regarding websites but I have been asked to provide a link from mine to another. What kind of links are the most beneficial? Links to other buisinesses, forums, yell.com or what?
Be gentle with me - i have no idea.  ;D

Links to other ppl don't help you,... them linking back is what you need!

Reciprocal links are the way to go, you help them if they help you!

Thanks but are certain links better than others or do you guys just link to as many sites as possible - presumably away from your area?

If you get someone with a good google pagerank to link to you it will improve your pagerank. If a site that google considers rubbish links to you,.. you rating will drop a little. There are also IP neighbourhoods,.. if your site or any linking to you share a server/IP address with a site that has spammed google or contains unsavoury content, then it will adversely affect your rank.
