Title: WFP Off A Ladder is it legal
Post by: pjulk on April 23, 2009, 04:04:01 pm
This is one of the jobs i done today.

As you can see i was using a small WFP of my 8ft pointer.
Now is this legal.

I can't WFP the whole roof from the ground i tried due to the curve on the roof so i got my small pointer out and did it that way.
Now would this be legal or not as i could see this was the only way of doing it unless i did it completly traditional off my ladder but WFP is so much easier.

Cant see anything wrong it, if you want to pour water onto a bus-stop, whats wrong with that?

It happens all the time when it rains  ;)

did you get the job done?
did you fall from the 3rd rung and injure yourself?

But no its probably not, cos you have nobody footing the ladder or non slip device attached also you dont have your hands on the ladder.
But I guess you had an ambulance on standby anyway

Yes i got the job done and quite a few more of them.

No i was wondering as in my method statement i produced to get this contract i did state that a small 8ft A frame ladder may be used for access to clean the roof.

Who cares if it's "legal"!  ???

What harm are you doing?
Just do what you feel safe with, and get on with the job.

There won't be a health and safety man lurking in their garden!

She's not in the picture but there is an old biddy kneeling at the foot of the pointer holding the bottom rung with her gnarled arthritic fingers ;D

Also she's quite a lumpy old biddy so Paul has something soft to land on should he fall off the 3rd rung ;D

Right! That's the health and safety issue sorted. But what puzzles me is why Paul is hosing down the roof? Surely his time and efforts would have been better spent hosing down the plastic bench within the shelter, getting rid of the chewing gum, bogeys and excrement...or was that your 2nd task? ;D

Well technically no its not legal as you don't have 3 points of contact on the ladder, however, we have all done what you are doing on the pic.

That looks like an omnipole mini pole. If you have an Omnipole powerpole they sell an angled piece so that you can clean things like that whilst still on the ground. http://www.omnipole.com/powerpole_accessories_and_spare_.htm under ledge and sill extension.

At those prices I think Id rather break the law.

You can get a whole pole for less than those prices, bloody rip-off merchants.

legal and political correct gone mad

"blackboard", there I said it.

There is no way that is unsafe in anyway, if a member of the council or police pulled me up for that, after laughing my head off at the stupidity of them, they would then get a mouth full for wasting my time.

I think there has to be a line drawn, I am tired of hearing that ladders are banned  :o or window cleaners are going out of business, either by ladders being band or WFP being banned during droughts, it will never happen.

I would like to see a member of the council running after these guys with there clip boards shouting health and safety, health and safety!

I don't think the council will pull me up on this as they are the one's who gave me the contract.

Yes it is an omnipole mini pole and yes i do have a powerpole but as i'm only doing the roofs once a year the cost of those Angled goosnecks is to much for an annual job as it just won't pay.
I have the bus shelter's monthly but then i don't need a powerpole as i won't be doing the roof.

No there's no bench in this one the one i did before this was and i washed it and some prat went and sat down on it.
And its amazing how many idiots still try to get in the shelter and while you washing the inside roof with WFP and the waters pouring down but they still want to come in.
I have cone's up and everything but they just ignore them
