Title: Do any scotchgard type treatments work with polypropylene?

Probably a silly question, but I was wondering if there is a product available that could be offered to commercial customers who have polypropylene floor coverings?

I think the one I use (scotchgard) on residential carpets needs to absorb into the fibre (ie some wool content) curious if there are any products that perhaps key to / coat the synthetic fibre?  ???

Polyprop carpets are basically plastic, there is no point in putting a plastic coating on a plastic fibre.

Polypropylene is hydrophobic so repels any water based treatment along with water based soiling. It is also oleophilic, ie it loves oil so attracts it to become easily stained.

At present, polypropylene may just as well be treated with plain water as the protector will not be accepted.  But there has been talk around for a few years about chemically etched fibres that may accept flouro chemical protectors. Haven't come across any yet though. It has also been suggested that the Dry Fusion system using Activator or Bactoshield will heat bond the protector to the fibre to allow an effective soil resist treatment on polyprop.  Although I use this system, I have not carried out any research myself to suggest that this works well. It certainly works for me on wool and nylon though.

You would need to ask the manufacturers about new generation nano based protectors on polyprop.

I'm just working on ways to:

A - Offer the best service to a commercial customer

and

B - It would be another way to make a little extra on the job

I've been chatting to a few guys who do commercial and the concept of 'maintenance' is a common theme.

Tie ins to clean more times per year and make it seem like a good thing to do. (Easy) ::) ;D

Hi Mike, yes maintenance for sure, something I'm working on too. Spoke to a few guys at the CCDO who gave me some good tips.

Not always easy to sell M plans but I think alot of cleaners go for a protector in the shampoo but I'm afraid there's no fix to this problem.

Are you manufacturing cimex machines now Shaun  ;D I thought Joe had your machine.

Good machine though, versatile and bullet proof - cleaned me dads patio with it at the weekend.  ;D

No I don't make them but I know the guy who did but that's another story, no I know someone who has lost some work and used them, Mike yes they are alot heavier and bigger commercially you can go upto 200 sq metres an hour.

Hi Guys

PP has no sites where the protector could bond and the cost of  'etching' them would be prohibitive.

I would be very surprised if any protector would  bond with PP, you could heat fuse but very expensive.
