What a day I had yesterday - Was cleaning a front room for a lovely old lady (looked like Miss Marple !!!) I asked her if it was ok to move her glass table.
It was one meter square but I could feel it was heavy. it looked as though it was tight inside the frame , I said to her is it safe the glass won,t fall out.
of course it won,t was the reply. You can guess what happened next yep fell on me big toe,she said Oh dear did,nt think that would happen ( the voice of EVIL )
Well hurt like hell but carried on with clean (hero - not) When finished clean went down to AE and now have broken toe in 3 places.
MORAL OF THE STORY -
1 - Wear toe protectors
2 - Trust no customer that looks anthing like an Agatha Christie detective.
Out of action for two days so I will sit back ,dust off my UK SUBS and CRASS albums and pretend I am young again !!!!!!!!!
-
Yes we have to watch out all the time with hazards in the home ::)
Least you didnt get cut as you could have mate.
Did drop the wand on my foot years ago on a cold morning fro a height ::)

I swear som old biddies set up knick knack booby traps so they can have a laugh. Let's face it a lot of them get bored and Countdown isn't quite the same these days without Carol. ;D

Could be worse - could've been Norman Bates! :o

Half dopped my machine when trying to put it in the van just after I started out, caught most of the weight but wheel landed on my foot and it bl***y hurt.
Next day went and bought steel cap shoes, wear them on all jobs now!
-
And the worst thing is when something like that happens is that YOUare liable.

The favourite one now is massive flatscreens on rickety chipboard units. I say at the quote. I will go round that as I won't move it.
Turn up and its been pulled out from the corner. Always tempted just to clean round it and leave a dirty patch in the middle of the lounge. ;D

Ripped off half of my large toenail once. I was working on a cottage in the country, so had to drive home. Ended up in a walk-in centre where the first Nurse said "do you mind if I dont deal with this as im a bit squeamish about feet".
Ended up with a Male Nurse and a tankfull of laughing gas as he said "you'll be allright in a mo, ill bend it back in!"
Once the gas kicked out, the pain kicked in!
Morale of the story is; Be careful if you wear SOFT indoor shoes whilst cleaning!"

Clinton - He sounds a right big poofter, you can tell him that from me (don't tell him where I live mate)
Off cleaning subject, but I once joined a band (17 years old) went round to the guys house to practise in his basement for the first time - dropped my technics kn1200 keyboard down the stairs and smashed it to smithereens ........... Maybe if I weren't such a butter fingers I could have been the next Gary Barlow ::)

Going round gay clubs to make a name for yourself, sounds a bit suspect if you ask me.

I use steel toe and midsole boots. Check your personal insurance, mine states 'suitable footware' so a pair of plimsoles probably would not pass muster and may invalidate a claim. I'm sure we all wear ear and eye protection too ;D
Simon
Oh Cat make some great safety boots/trainers

Paul
Its ok mate he wont find you well funny enough he works on the google street ;D
-
Sorry but, steel toe caps for carpet cleaning never crossed my mind - and personally cant see the need.
If insurance companies want us to wear toe protectors they would need to put it clearly in their policy....... suitable footwear is open to open to interpretation.
I banged my head on a bedroom fitment (overbed units but no bed there). - suppose I should wear a hard hat as well. Give over!

health and safety gone mad
next they'll be giving grave stones a wobble test to make sure it won't topple over

Fair enough, but there's examples in this thread of dropping things on your toe. It happens. For the sake of £40 it's hardly health and safety gone mad, I accept hard hats a step too far ;D
-
sorry arena clean
just commenting on panarama last week, where councils really do have a gravestone wobble accessor. ;D

::)Amazing, and we're paying for these muppets.

Funny am sure all these jobsworthys look the same ;D

£1.65 million has been spent by councils doing topple tests on gravestones, if they fail there wrapped in warning tape and fenced off. mad.
