Title: BBC1 - Panarama - Health and Safety Programme tonight...
Post by: Tosh on April 20, 2009, 08:06:51 pm
I think it includes working at height and ladder use; it's probably worth viewing!

Loved the bit when the instructor smacked his head into the ceiling!  ;D

I thought it was a pretty good programme, it showed how over the top all this H&S is - what ever happened to common sense? But it also highlighted the need for safety regulations on bigger site work.
We all need some sort of rules granted, but not the petty crap like installing hand rails to go up two steps in an ancient church.

Reading behind the "Daily Mail" type hype the BBC have fallen into with this programme did you notice what is behind it all? (besides the desire of consultants to make money out of jobsworth jobs in H&S?)

The fear of being sued!

people interpret it all worong and take the worst cae scenario and overload with procedures and ppe etc.
it's all about managing the risk.

also insurance companies play a massive part in it as a poster said "the fear of getting sued"

Just after starting WFP, I managed to hurt myself by tripping over my own hose.  I was fine on ladders though  :)

Yes, but before that you have to get the reports signed by Tom, Dick, and Harry, and after the three-month-period is up, you have to bury then in a peat bog.

That's the ruddy rules!
