Morning all.I did a post last week about my TDS reading for my pure water coming out as 006.I've checked it and it's now coming out at 014.The equipment I'm using is below and is about 2 weeks old and has made only about 400 litres of 'pure' water. The TDS reading straight from the tap is 398.Then after the R/0 unit it's 58.Now after the DI unit it's coming out 14.Obviously somethings going wrong somewhere and any advice would be appreciated. Can I just confirm it's rigged up correctly (neither of the items below came with any instructions)-the mains water is connected to the R/O unit, the R/O unit is then connected to the DI and then the DI runs out the pure water. Can't see where I'm going wrong and it's getting on my tits a bit now.Surely filters don't need replacing already?

sounds like one or more of the membranes are not seated properly or they no good to start with.
while you are producing pure water, pull the pipe out of the product end of each membane and test each one individually.
my tds is over 500 and comes out of the ro at about 4/5,
also what is your water pressure as this makes a differance, mine has a booster pump and runs at 90 psi, although saying that it should still come out better than 58
-
Did you flush the ro for a while 1st?

Tap water TDS of over 500! Crickey. That's harder than a Jock on Tennants Super!!!
I think my own is about 180!

tds roon ma way 28 ;)

ive measured it 600 before, seems to get higher in the summer, water from bore holes i expect.

silly question but you have got resin in that tiny di havnt you?
well if its 58 after your ro and your polishing it off through di after it should still bring it down to 000 i used to used di only 400 from tap straight through resin to 000 so it wouldnt be your ro membranes well i wouldnt think so anyway id say resin's no good
wow small di chamber i dont know how long they last but it cant be long get yourself a bigger di cylinder will last all year ...well nearlly

When your taking your Ro tds have you allowed it to run for a few mins first, or are you measuring it straight away?

I measured a private water supply at 1500, yes, 1500!! You think meter only displays 3 figures? it does but it flashes X 10!! :o

I think plain n simple answer is you need to change the resin in that cylinder
I have the same setup as you (except my water is pumped in to the RO @85psi) and I have 2 x 700ml DI's & my TDS at the tap is 450 after the RO its 10 & with 2 DI's I change the resin every 4 weeks or so and im producing about 800/900l per week
-
Those poxy 700ml DI resin containers are useless, thats half your trouble, get rid and get a couple of 7 litre or a couple of 11 litre resin containers off e-bay. Theyre about the same price off e-bay as what you paid for that thing.
Oh btw, getting a pump too to help you along, that'll save on resin. lso check the membranes ARE seated correctly.
Youre problems will then be solved.

Thanks for the input folks.I've spoken to the people I got the DI unit from and they told me that it has resin already. The system was working fine at first with a TDS reading of 000.I think I 've probably made only about 300 litres with it.They told me that the R/O unit should take out 95% so the reading should be about 020 after going through the R/O.I'm going to have a tinker with it and check all the membranes and see if things change.Interesting point about water pressure possibly affecting the reading. The pressure where I live is lousy admittedly.

Yeah I flushed through first. When it first came out it was 250 odd but then settled at 58 after a while.
-
Get a booster pump. That will bring your tds down considerably before the di.
-
Out of interest, how will a pump being down the TDS reading?I can see how it would increase the amount of water produced but not anything else. Not questioning it's true, just interested to know how.
-
It increases the internal pressure of a unit thus making the RO unit work mor efficiently. Imagine.....all that water being pushed through the membranes under pressure, its going to purify it a lot better and effectively.

u say you put it straight throu resin out of tap and it was 400 out of tap i tryed that 2 day straight throu resin mine shot up to 57 so i put it back throu RO back 2 000 now. my TDS from tap is 268 so i dont know whats going on there .
-
Sounds like you have two problems - your ro isn't working correctly and your resin is exhausted too.
I would expect your ro to get your water down to less than fourteen on it's own. Your resin should get that down to zero.
-
mine is at 000 its just i thought i would try it trou di by its self .
-
You say your tap water goes into the RO. Have you not got prefilters on it?
Chlorine from tap water will seriously damage the membrane. You need a sediment filter to take out all the micrscopic bits and bobs that are in tap water (could block membrane). you also need a carbon filter to take out chlorine. These both go before the RO.

yes soz i just wanted 2 try what freeman said.
