Title: Worst first clean ever
Post by: ftp on April 16, 2009, 05:15:44 pm
Quoted for a first clean the other day - the guy insisted I clean the frames and sills so I told him that was part of the job anyway. Had a quick look and it looked easy enough bit grubby with a few twigs etc hanging around.
Turned out it used to be covered in some creeper of some kind - spent an hour and a half with a blade trying to get root suckers off all the upvc frames all for twelve quid.  ::)

I would have stopped, told him I would have to re-quote due to this, then the price would return to £12 after the first clean, if he wasn't happy, I would just walk.

How long did it take you?

I'm soft; I would've done what FTP did; bit the bullet and cleaned it.  I don't usually do the 'first clean extra charge thing'; unless it's really justified.

However, I have learnt when quoting for stuff to take my time and really look at each window; it's height, access, the frames; everything.  I almost imagine myself doing the job when I'm quoting.

A cursory look at a property followed by a price is just asking for trouble.

I would have stopped and explained to the person this job is going to take a lot longer than thought and can't do it for the price quoted and give them a new price.

they can either take it or leave it.

Have to admit I would have done the same as FTP...but when quoting now I always walk the house twice...1st to have a scan then 2nd to walk it like Tosh mentioned...Imagining I am cleaning it and then assess the time and price...but hey we have all quoted and regretted it later...

Tomy's not the best speller in the world, you sometimes have to read his posts twice to get what he's saying but its usually worth it. A good WC is Tomy.
