Title: glass fibre v hybrid
Post by: KINGAKNAA on April 16, 2009, 03:33:31 pm
I'm after a new pole reaching 28ft, I am using a 24ft x-tel GF with superlight brush at the mo on domestics, so I'm checking prices, I see there's about £100 difference between x-tel GF (£130) and x-tel hybrid (£229) there is also minimal weight difference, GF 2.6kg & Hybrid 2.2kg. I realise the rigidity of the hybrid will better the GF, but I cannot see the justification in spending £100 extra!

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Cheers in advance

The hybrid is a much better pole than the fibre glass.  As you say there is only minimal weight difference but it is a lot more rigid which makes an enormous difference when in use.  At the price, it's hard to better the 24ft Hybrid.

Can you not get hold of a 17/18' hybrid Alex?

Or how much does a 24' hybrid weigh by comparison to a 17' x-tel?

You could make a 17ft hybrid by chopping each section down.  The comparative weights are:

24ft Hybrid 2kg
17ft Glass Fibre 1.45 kg

i took a 24ft hybrid an cut it down to a 17ft pole for everyday abuse , i just popped out to the garage with a set of quality digital fishing scales and weighed it, the pole has tubing through it plastic goose neck swivel bit and a super light single trim brush and it came in at 1.82kg
