Title: Velvet sofa problems
Post by: Gavin Reardon on April 12, 2005, 02:48:34 pm
I called out to a customer today to carry out a survey on two natural fibre velvet sofa's, aubergine in colour which she got from Habitat only two years ago.

I carryed out the usally tests to find if the colour would bleed and it was.It was losing colour with just water also fibre and fabric rinse and also it blead with dri pro

I then did a distortion test which told me it had to be dry cleaned but the tag on the sofa said not to dry clean!  :o

My point is why do they make this sort of fabric when it is so hard to clean  ???

I told Mrs Mill's I did not wont the job as there were to many risks involed but I would ask my fellow Carpet Cleaners if they had any Ideas and may be I will have a go but at no risk to my company. She seemed to be happy with that.

Many thanks Gavin

Gavin

Depending on the condition ie staining etc

Good vacuum, very light mist over with woolsafe Solution No4 or similar, mini tex off and dress pile.

Job done ;)

Sounds like viscose.  Did it distort upon drying?

Seen a lot of these recently although never seen anything loose colour like you describe.

Wouldnt feel comfortable using the mini tex on this as too aggressive.

Walk away.
