Whoops!
If there is an hinderance I dont notice it - I get the positives from the glide and feel better for it.

I had a hybrid glide - one with holes and slots. The holes kept glogging up with fluff etc, so I went to a friends house and used his milling machine to open the holes into the slots. Jobs a good un.

Some say glides are for girls.............  ::)

Mike

Glides are definately user friendly. Couldn't work without one these days.

Is vacuum perfromance hindered? Some will say yes some will say no. For me, I'm positive that I get a better dry. The fitting of the glide does create a hindrance to the cfm's, but it also then allows a vac motor to be kept "in it's sweet spot" where it works best, and also increases the velocity of the air. When the wand/glide comes into contact with the carpet, the dynamics change enormously, and this is where the glide performs to it's strengths. When not in contact with the carpet, the glide is just an hindrance as I've already stated, but we don't rinse carpets with the wand flapping about in the air ;)

There seems to be a universal opinion that Greenglides are the only ones worth having. From my limited experience of other brands, I'd agree.

BTW somebody told me the other day that Shaun Ashmore was the first person in the UK, or was it Europe, to use a glide. Can anyone confirm that this is true?

Safe and happy cleaning :)

Side way action is good but cant the Heineken effect. ;)

Title: Re: Are they any good?/ Ashbys power brush
Post by: brianbarber on April 14, 2009, 10:45:41 pm
Sounds like these glides are a good idea, i have had re occuring shoulder pain due to pinched nerve in my neck, c5,c6.
Thinking about the carpet power brush Ashbys sell.
Basic prob with wand is constant leaning over, coupled with having to give it some wellie!!

Anyone used power brush??

Both problems solved with a Glide, Brian... one handed wanding a lot of the time, with minimal effort to push & pull ;)

You can use longer strokes and stand bolt upright, all whilst maintaining the same angle of attack with the wand, so it actually makes wanding faster in many cases.

I don't think a glide is all that necessary if you are using a portable, but it certainly comes into it's own when coupled with a truck mount, as the wand will stick like glue to the carpet without a glide.
