Just got my April copy of NCCA Newslink.
Statement in their that a carpet cleaning business in London fined £1000 and £975 costs for making a false statement by means of a website bearing the NCCA logo. The local Trading Standards Office prosecuted under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
As the notice said "I trust it will send a warning to other offenders".
Thats a hefty fine, then costs as well!

Joe did they name the company Regards Alan(swindon)
-
Yes
it was Top Carpet Clean and it was Haringey Magistrates Court
-
Im sure this is good news to all the NCCA members who do pay the membership fee in order to carry the logo.
The only thing is Joe the amount of cleaning companies carrying the NCCA logo and then using staff with no qualifications whatsoever, this imo is where the problems occur, the NCCA should spot check all members to make sure that they are adhering to the correct procedures, maybe then they would be taken more seriously and gain more members.

Good point mark with that post :)
Also i think the so called exam they set for you ::)
-
Anyone seen Ian Harpers Youtube promo for NCCA? It's quite snazzy.
Question is if I had that embedded on my website and I'm not an NCCA member, does that mean I would be fined a Grand?

Mike
I saw that too :)

Trouble is you need to be Johnny Mnemonic to read it.

Blimy Mark, the police cant see to all the reports of misdemeanors they get, and look at the staffing levels and the costs!
Elsewhere in the NCCA Newslink it says "One member was concerned that several non-members are using the NCCA logo in his area and wondered why we were doing nothing about it. I was able to confirm that the office team take the strongest action against any non-members who claim to be NCCA members. However, we rely on feedback to report offenders to the office. The office team simply does not have the resources to check all advertisers in the UK."
I got to agree with what June Frankum said (NCCA President).
The government bodies encourage you and I to whistle blow on benefit cheats, for example.
How do you feel about them? You are paying in taxes for their cheated benefits. Would you or would you not tell on them?
Same with misuse of NCCA logo, members are paying for the NCCA to be in operation so would you have any reasons why not telling on others who want a free ride - benefitting from your expense.

I just mean the odd spot check Joe, surely this would be possible.

I know a couple of firms doing what you said in the post and non members using the logo as they work for someone who is a member ::)

Scroll down and look on the left, this company use the "trained by the NCCA" and get round the logo situation.

A v cheap company ???
Wonder how much work they get ???
-
They get lots of work, they're based in Huddersfield.
"Trained by NCCA" is now regarded as a misuse of name by the NCCA I believe
-
Well they would wouldn't they.
If someone is trained by NCCA they are trained by the NCCA. If they can't promote that then NCCA may want to refuse their money then.
To be honest I think it's a bit petty. It's not exactly Corgi is it. You turn up take a test and if you don't pass have another go and so long as you cough up they are happy.
Sorry if that sounds a bit negative to the paid up members but it's the way I see it. :-\

I thought the NCCA clamped down on using Trained by NCCA as a way round it
