Title: canvassing phobia, please help!?!
Post by: colley614 on April 02, 2009, 09:52:34 pm

Hi Guys,

Really want to get myself out canvassing but I really don't like it. I always seem to get the old " Well my last one used to do my country estate, my second home in Spain. Take the kids to school, walk the dog and wash the Bentley for £2."

How do you guys go about canvassing, is there any method you guys use? I really want to get good at it but always find myself getting back in my car after half an hour.

Your problem is you get back in the car, it is hard hearing no after no, but when you get a yes you spped ahead.

When they say there last window cleaner used to do it for £2 ask where he is thats what I do, and I normally respond saying thats why he has stopped? now he's either bankrupt, caught by the dole office or got a job that pays a wage, Quote your price you want, fi they say thats cheap all good if they say the £2 thing, just say we are reliable for that price we would not be in business, sometimes you have to pay for a good service then shrug your shoulders  ;)

Dont take it too seriously or personal.
Quick intro, such as " I'm a window cleaner & in case you're not happy with your present arrangement then here's my card"
Be positive & dont ask them if they want the card.
Thats all you have to say. If they like you then they'll do the talking. Plain sailing from there on in.
Aim to do as mainy as possible in an hour, no more cos you tire.

Kevin.

Good advice there guys. I just take things personally, after half an hours canvassing I'm walking down the road sounding like mutley. " Frazzer, wazzer."

I just started canvassing properly a few days ago.One thing I'm finding is that some people (usually old people) can be very protective of their current window cleaner if they have one.All I said to some old biddy the other day was,"Would you like a window cleaner?" and she truly went into one.She was still jabbering away as I was walking away from her."We already have one,he's been doing it for years,I bet he's much better than you etc etc".It went on and on.Actually thinking about it,she might have been mad.I just hope my customers defend me in the same way!
