Title: Lucky escape today !
Post by: Steve Barnett (Carpet Care Plus) on March 31, 2009, 02:12:21 pm
Went to clean 2 sofas today, 1 was dralon - the other I believed to be acrylic.

Started testing and turned out it was viscose. I cut a sample piece off of the spare swatch on the base and showed the client as I sprayed it with cold water. It immediately shrunk and curled up and never regained it's shape.

The sofa was only a year old from John Lewis.

So I narrowly avoided owning a bloody awful patterned sofa !

Hi steve

Good post as with the other earlier am going to start to be more carefull then :o

Looks like the suites that look like a certain fabric are not after the test ???

Just goes to show when a client phones for a quote and the say i have been quoted 30 or 40 pounds and they wont pay anymore let them take it ::)

Well done mate for spotting it :)

Acrylic and Dralon are one and the same.

My pet hate is why dont these upholstries put a label on to say what the compostion of the fibres are.

One firm said to me it on the swatches so the customer will know.

But it good to see that testing the fibes beforehand showed up the problem.

Test test and test again is what I heard on one course I went on 10 years ago and that has stuck to me.
