just wondering how many pay to get there leaflets out and how many deliver there own and how many dont do leaflets Paul
-
Do our own as we are very selective which streets.

I had a job cancel on the doorstep yesturday, so I spent an hour & forty Mins putting out leaflets, it reminded me why I don't put them out myself!!
all i did was 200 and it was as boring as hell, it you want an effective leaflet responce you need to do 1000s if you are just starting up you can doing a couple of hours a day because you've got the free time but an established company should spend its time earning money cleaning carpets and pay for leaflet delivery

Hi Mike,
We don't rely on leaflets to bring in a high proportion of work. The kind of leaflet drops that we do are in the hundreds but we do still get a high return.
I enjoy doing it. It gets me (and the dog) out most days for at least an hour. It's good excersise and I often get to see the people whose house I am targeting so I'm able to give a good impression even before they read the leaflet.
The kind of people I see delivering leaflets are scruffy, walk across front gardens and the leaflets are not folded neatly making it look like a piece of bog roll coming through the door. Worse still is people delivering in the rain and getting a wet piece of bog roll through the door.
What a waste of money.
There are other ways to use leaflets than by the thousand.

I have mine delivered, but if I do get the time to i like to go out and drop leaflets myself
-
I deliver em myself - have a 1% conversion rate to jobs. I have not however, delivered a flyer since 10th Feb - been too busy!
I am considering finding someone reliable to do them for me, maybe on 5% commision plus say £20 per thousand delivered.
I believe it important to deliver Solus. The junk that comes with the free paper normally gets filed straight into the bin!
-
My Blinds Leaflets are delivered through Free Paper
Carpet Cleaning Hand delivered by myself but not getting volume out to replace income from blinds
But still not happy with present leaflet result to justify switchinor paying for solus drop.
-
we deliver them ourselves as we are still biulding up business and have spare time in week to do it- not having the spare cash to pay someone to deliver them for us also plays a part- and do i trust someone to deliver them all and not bin half of them to go home early :-[ mick

Hi Guys,
I have probably delivered half a million leaflets myself over the years although I haven't done any for the last few.
My business changed for the better, when some years ago I decided to increase the amount of leaflets delivered by employing people.
Cheers,
Doug

Hi Guys,
As I'm working through the night tonight and with the weather so nice I decided I'd go deliver a few leaflets, this reminded me how much I hate doing it :(
Dont you just hate the bloody brush things that make it near impossible to deliver an uncrumpled leaflet :P
I'm going to get the post man to do it for me, he must have figured it out by now!!

-
Isee that on one of the cleaning boards there is a company that prints and delivers 20000 for £199 (well thats what it say,s) ???
-
Des
20k is to your door not to potential customers, could be wrong? :( :(
Len
-
Depends on how many colours, £ 199 for full colour would be good. I pay £ 130 for 20k 2 colour. Dont think that full colour is worth the extra dosh.
-
I have 20000 at £99 two colours A5 i like the leaflet, i get out about a 1000 a week which isnt enough i know
Bu ta catch 22 situation i need the work to pay to get them delivered and i need them delivered to get the work i am getting 1 or 2 quotes per 1000 leaflets which isnt good.
Price seems to be a issue last two quotes.
lounge/diner and one bedroom i quoted £150 customer told me shes had a quote for £25
Stairs and a large rug i quote £55 customer had a quote for £15

Cath my partner has just started her own business ( kleeneze) i slipped my own leaflets in her catalogues and the response has astounded me i've been struggling for 12 months though the fire didnt help but i've got 4 quotes from 200 leaflets. I am assuming when my leaflets goes through the door its read at the door and forgotten , but when its in the catalogues the potential customers sits down and takes time to read it (the only way is up) Paul

Paul, Monday morning do this for me then report back on here on the night with your result for the day.
1/ Get out of bed, wash and put on a smart pair of BLACK trousers and a smart shirt (NO TIE PLEASE)
2/ Gather about 50 leaflets together and put in van/car.
3/ Drive to a fairly populated street
4/ Knock on door and parrot the following... "Hi there, first of all I would like to introduce myself, Im Paul Chambers and Im the local Carpet and Upholstery cleaner in this village, (then show customer leaflet) could I interest you in a free quote for cleaning?" PLEASE DO NOT SAY ANY MORE THAN THAT!!!!!! Wait for reply. If she/he laughs and tells you to p*** off or something similar, parrot the following "Please could I at least leave you with my leaflet then", 99.9 per cent of the time they will say yes.
5/ Walk to the next door knowing that the previous person you knocked on is now thinking (worst case senario)... Cant believe that prat disturbed me when I was trying to hang out the washing, but he did seem very friendly and professional, maybe I will keep his leaflet just in case.
Stop arsing about dropping bits of crappy paper through peoples doors, they will only bin them (FACT).
show your friendly face, AND START PROPER SELLING!
If you were MADE/FORCED to go out and get at least £400.00 min worth of contracts per day (like I was made to do) or you would receive the biggest rollicking of your life when you returned to base, I could guaranty you would be hitting that target day in day out.
So are you going to to this on Monday Paul?.
Alternatively you could stay at home at slowly turn into a bum.

No not sat at home i've got four quotes to do Paul but thanks for your reply
-
Don,
Among all the chaff there is wheat. :o
An excellent post.
Face to face selling is the cheapest and best way to get started.
When the recession hit in 1990 it was the only thing that kept me from going under (I had only started in Essex in 1989 and was not yet established).
I didn't want to go door to door so I called on commercial premises , it worked.
Cheers,
Doug

Good post Don.
Hope you didn't have too many Bathrooms to quote for!! ;) ;D

Doug,
Im very suprised you preferred calling on commercials rather that domestic door knocking, I absolutely hate walking into reception, it as if they know exactly what your after. Then you meet the guy responsible for maintenance, mouth almost immediately goes dry and hands start to sweat and begin to shake. :-[ But for some unknown reason the nerves tend to make me think and speak extremely effectively, weird ???
When you see the receptionist never say that you would like to see the person responsible for cleaning, maintinence, Hygiene etc, the receptionist or the decision maker will say they are too busy, they always do!! Try this... 8) "Hi there, I have come to do a quote for carpet cleaning, who do I need to see" she will then call the confused decision maker to reception, just explain to them that you sorry to give the impression you were booked in to give a quote, you were just offering.
So there you go, you now have the main person responsible for maintenance right at your feet, and whats best, he knows exactly what your there for!!. 8) 8) 8)
RESULT!!!!

Don,
We all have a laugh and a joke, and sometimes we all go a bit too far.
How refreshing it is to see some sensible and informative posts from you. :)
Ooh, Must go, Bath is overflowing!!
Martin
Ps. Last time I mention Baths. ;D
-
Don,
The reason I preferred commercial was that I felt like a salesman when I called and afterall all companies sell , so why shouldn't they receive.
I also agree with your comment on asking for the premises manager etc , I too tried to give the impression I was calling for a prearranged quote. On the Tack international sales course I went on , a couple of hours were dedicated to getting past the dreaded receptionist.
On door to door selling we did quite a lot in the 80's in London , but I always felt I was being a nuisance , disturbing people in there own homes.
Cheers,
Doug

;D That was just plain stupid, cant to this day believe that I did that!!!, think I was getting far to confident for my own good.
