Title: uv and skin cancer etc
Post by: Llaaww on March 25, 2009, 04:20:31 pm
I am no expert or boffin, but I do know that as a window cleaner I need to protect myself against the effects of exposure to the sun.

At work I am constantly exposed to glare from the sun as well as reflected glare from glass, my old bird says I need to be using sun bloc so I don't end up like an old prune, I don.t like the stuff but I do put it on in the summer, as well as using a good pair of shades.

Are there any boffins out there who can give us all a few pointers on staying well in the sunshine this year, especially as it will be a real belter (can't be worse than last year)

thanks ;)

just wear the sun block, it's better to be safe. you are out all day so you inrease your chances of at the very least sun burn :o .
and as you work outside it's for work so it is an acceptable business expence ;D

I'd add that you should put on the sun block 20 or so minutes before leaving home in the morning...gives it a chance to sink into the skin.

This is a good post.  One of my elderly customers has skin cancer; she's got massive sores all over her head (she's got almost no hair; I don't think that's from chemotherapy either; she's too old and too 'run down'); they're around her nose mostly; it looks terrible.

She claims it's because she was a 'bit of an outdoors girl' when she was a 'hot young girl', and when she was young there was no such thing as sun-block.

She's in a right state though; poor lass.

Is last years leftover cream ok to use? Heard before that you shouldnt use last years as it losses its protection but not sure if its a myth!  ???

I reckon that's something the manufacturers put about to encourage you to chuck out half used and buy new.

especially as it will be a real belter
will it?
is there some evidence for this?
I sure hope so 8)

care of your skin is something that should be taken very seriously, the damage can take years to become apparant and so better to be safe than sorry as others can testify.
Yep sun block and shades, I wear a hat also, an outback ozzy type, very practical and designed to be so, although its often commented a look a bit of a cowboy !  ;D
