if you want en exact replica ( operating system and all ) then use this programme, its the industry standard
www.symantec.com/norton/ghost (http://www.symantec.com/norton/ghost)
it has many features, one being to replicate ( clone ) a hard drive onto a hard drive partition or another hard drive

I send an email to a second account about once every 3 days with my George backup attached, That way at least your work records are saved on a hotmail account and can be backed up from anywhere.
-
I'm lucky i've created an auto sync with my laptop and storage pen so when i update anything it auto sync's the files so i have a backup everytime.

My hard drive packed up once,it had my business on it including 4 years of photos that people had sent me from all over the world, i took it to 4 different recovery specialists who all said nothing could be done but the last place did it no problem, i would shop around.

I don't save the system because I have the CD with it on. I do back up important files though.
I have an 80GB external drive which is plenty for me. Also, in case of fire, theft, or electr-magnetic damage, I have some files stored at www.filegenie.com . I pay $2.99 a month for 50MB. The actual cost has increased recently due to exchange rates and is currently a bit over £2. Another thing to consider is getting an email account on the web. Some of these have unlimited storage free of charge. You could simply email the files to yourself at the selected web email address. Best to organise the email subject headers and folders so you know what is where.
