Title: Has anyone used saddle soap for cleaning leather suites?
Post by: kinder clean on March 24, 2009, 12:37:40 pm
I know I know ................... Hells fire another old wives tale !!

However I just spent some time looking for leather cleaning products on't tinternet and found lots of threads that mentioned how good this

was for cleaning their suite. ( Having said that their were as many glowing reports for baby wipes!! )

But it is after all actually made for cleaning leather right ?  - Do any of you guys use it ?

It's also good value compared to the stuff I've been buying.

I was watching Kim and Aggie last night [ sad I know ]  on 1 off the cable channels they used saddle soap on a couch , they also used hairspray to remove a ink stain , as a professional I think we should be using the correct products

Yea! I used it once upon a time, decades ago!

Would you like to see pictures what it can do to leathers when used on a regular basis?

I looked at a suite a couple of months ago which had been " cleaned " with saddle soap. The arms were like peeling parchment and the suite was beyond help, other than re covering.

Do NOT use saddle soap on anything other than SADDLES or BELTS maybe COYBOY BOOTS !!!!

Fill in the blanks as you have done your research.

O K Roger, I know saddle soap has been superceded but it's still being sold and marketed by one of  the biggest suppliers in world as The Product for saddles, belts, etc, etc.

So...............who's gonna tell FIEBINGS they shouldn't be marketing saddle soap for that purpose !

The logical answer would be the inventor of this harsh alkaline soap himself.

As he would know precisely what this product is to be used for originally.

Do you know the pH value of this harsh alkaline soap yet?
