Title: sunglasses?
Post by: alanwilson on March 23, 2009, 11:52:32 pm
does anyone wear sunglasses when cleaning windows in the summer, if so, do they get in the way or hinder you at all?

I was very nearly blinded last week and think I'll have to get some shades  8) for the summer.

High quality Sunglasses should form a part of your method statement and risk assessment for our work. There is a very real danger looking up all of the time of burning your retinas eventually. I believe that this has already happened to some in the US who have been using WFP for many years.

I virtually never work without them as the combination of bright sky/walls and falling water drops can virtually blind you.

I always have at least two pairs of good quality glasses in the works van at any time. (just bought myself a new pairs of Bolle's for work)

yeah I find this when doing pole work in the summer, you get a headache with the constant squinting. I tend to think people see you and think what a twat, he thinks hes cool, but is makes life a little easier. I also never drive a car without sun glasses near by.

I am also getting logo'ed baseball caps soon, in preperation for a scortching summer, touch wood.

Allways wear sun glasses very important tool to have.
With out them i don't think i would be able to see a lot of glass.

As alex said make sure you buy a good quality pair.
I have bolle bought 4 years ago for £130 they don't move around on your face when cleaning windows.
Rob.

Also useful in the wind, protect eyes from dust and grit blowing about.

Downside, you can end up looking like a Racoon  8) ;D ::)

I wear sunglasses a lot when working and a baseball cap as you can quickly get blinded by the sun reflecting off the glass even in the middle of winter.

Remember sunglasses, sun tan lotion, cream, etc are all tax deductable as protective equipment. With the glare from painted houses and windows I use skin protection from mid spring onwards.

Regards
Mr H

Wrap around Oakleys are the best i've come accross, an essential bit of kit when the sun shines, along with high factor sun lotion.

I got photochromatic/reactolite lenses in my specs - they really help with the bright sunlight/headaches etc.

I use very good sunglasses, my dad has always insisted since i was little i wear good sunglasses. I used to sell sunglasses on the internet once and made alot of money out of it, I was only 15 in school, dont have time to do it anymore, and window cleaning pays so well

Raybans are the best imo. Getting a new pair of wayfarers soon. Bur for work a pair of wrap arounds is best, like Oakleys

I have polarised prescription lenses, they are a must have for me. The only thing is, as soon as I put them on the bloody sun goes in.

No that was me, not trevor.

Yes they do. But I find they go darker quicker than they return to lighter. But driving at night is no problem and car headlights don't seem to darken them.
