Title: this wagtail thing
Post by: cybersye on March 23, 2009, 06:45:55 pm
Having not used one, I'm curious.
I have a few shops now with large windows maybe 8 ft high, I clean them trad with an extension pole and on one of them I also do the insides.
Some swear by them , others say they are awkward to use.
Was very sunny last week and with warmer days on the way I find i have to work fast to stop the suds drying.
I'm considering buying one but I'm concerned at how much water they can hold and how easy/difficult they are to use.
My other option would be to go with a backflip styled one.
which one do people think would be better ? opinions please  :-\
Thanks  ;)

I have used the wagtail flipper with aplicator.

Good tool. Takes some geting used to though.

Only prob with the aplicator is it wares out quite quickly.

I love it and use it on most jobs when not wfp.

I havent used one but seen vids of it, dont see the need really myself, there is nothing wrong with straight strokes with an extention pole for these jobs. Vesa Versa is a good tool to quicken things up a little.

ive used the visa versa , the backflip and the wagtail i dont think much of the visa versa , the back flip is good if the cills arnt too deep i just tend to use this on shop fronts , the wagtail is good tool to have just takes a few hours getting used to .

I'd say the wagtail is ideal for the sort of job you are speaking about. You'll probably have to redip in between panes that large. It will speed you up no end and there will be little to worry about on hot days.

I don't think you'll be able to get away with a single pass though, you need to use the wagtail to sud up then blade off.

Simon.

you can get pretty fast with a 22inch applicator (unger) and a 24 inch ettore super channel, especially if you work with both hands.

thanks for the advice and opinions on the wagtail
had a look for videos of it and found this (sad i know but informative none the less)

and then this

I think that on the strength of what I can see from these videos and the guys review I'm going to go with the 18" ettore backflip, ticks all the boxes for me and could do with a bigger squegee anyhow.
Often find it difficult to reach a descision without seeing in the flesh but this guys reviews are very helpful.
