Terry "TURBO" Burrows didn't earn that title for nothing, and he has held it for so long that even when he's too old and feeble to grip a squeegee (and this is the only time when some young whippersnapper will take the title) he'll always be remembered as the world's fastest window cleaner.

Not only that, but Terry doesn't just sit around and wallow in Hero worship, he actually uses his skill to promote the window cleaning industry generally and gets involved in all kinds of Local and National events.

When a radio station wants to do something about window cleaning, they call Terry Burrows.  When there's a TV item about window cleaning, it's usually Terry.

When the founder of the Guinness Book of Records died last year, Terry was invited to the memorial service.

Terry is an ambassador for the window cleaner that I think we can be genuinely glad we have.  My hat is off to the Guy.

If i remember correctly Terry started the record cleaning thing.

Rather than an ambassador, to non window cleaners he's a figure of fun.

Sorry for the honesty!!

you naughty bear, you will still be eating cheap porrige, while were eating a full English Breakfast because terrys system of cleaning is far faster, its  like everything once you get the rythem its easy

It is faster, all credit to Terry.

I applaud him with both paws.

When non window cleaners think of window cleaners two things come up, George Formby and Terry "Turbo" Burrows.

Sorry but I dont see the relevance of a speed record, cleaning clean windows.

Hi Terry,

Please don’t take my comment as criticism, I can’t see how the two handed method works for every day use!

To take the dirt off the window, surely more “scrub” is required.

All the best, The Bear

;)Trust me it does work, with dirty windows you would scrub more, but the norm like car showrooms its much faster to clean that way ;D have a go

Hi Folks,
I saw Terry at last years NFMWGC Trade Show, and he's quick!
I started to use his 2 handed method, takes a bit of getting the hang of (a bit like 15 years ago when I got the hang of using a squeegee properly).
No good for all windows, you would be totally contravining the Working at Height Regs on upstairs!!
But Shops Patios and large downstairs I can do a1/3 faster.

I havn't got the gutts to chalange him though!!!

Thanks Terry.

rosskesava is that a hearse you use for your window cleaning service
Title: Re: WFP WORLD RECORD
Post by: rosskesava on April 12, 2005, 12:37:32 am
Hi john meehan

Yup

It is a hearse. It still has all the decking and the rollers for the coffins.

It's an 1982 Mk 6 Granada converted and lengthened by a company called Colman Milnes.

2.8ltr fuel injected with hydraulic suspension. Drives like a dream apart from going around corners. The lock is cr*p.

It's a bit hard to get spares for though but it takes all our stuff and get's us noticed and as a result, gets us business.

It makes being a window cleaner something a bit different.

Cheers

Why use two hands when you'v got the backflip. When you really persevere and get your technique right, you can use as an all in one tool most of the time, even on really grotty windows. Just get more water on for these. The only time I flip the blade is when I'm poling shops. No safety problems when doing the tops either. I think it's the best invention ever for the traditional shiner. It does need perserverance to get it right though. Dai

Hi Dai

A few days back we watched a w/c doing shop windows using the 2 handed method and I could not believe the speed he was going.

I don't think it'd be so productive on some resindentual properties though but tomorrow I'm going to buy a backflip and give that a go.

Also, the rinse aid idea. Terrific isn't it? Thanks for that.

Cheers

Ross

Hi Terry

What make back flip do you use and do you all use them on every type of property?

Also, this may be a silly question but how did you get to be so fast? Did you practise and practise and practise and if you did, was it while working or on your own windows and how long did it take you to get that quick?

Thanks and cheers

Ross

Terry,

You're a big lad, but you're getting on a bit.  There's some hungry lads out there.

But serious now.  How many average 3 bed semi-detached houses can you knock out per hour - using traditional methods?

If you can't knock out at least 6 an hour - UBA1 is going to be taking your window cleaning crown.

Regards

Tosh.

 ;)well guys,

firstly we do not do houses!we only do comercial,we use the backflip on car showrooms etc, they work great you must have good blades in them, and how I became fast, when I was just 11 years old,I did boxing my hands are very fast,I then went at the age of 18 years into karate, then left for some years, since 1999
I trained and took my son and took my blackbelt, and I helped my son take his too, then I was teaching for quite a while,it all comes down to the left hand can do things while the right hand, can do another, this is where the karate comes in play, there are 3 windows as you know, there are just a certain amount of moves you have to do,any more moves is just no good, the world record is more complex then it looks, your hands are doing one thing, your legs are doing somthing else, its the karate that has improved me no end, coardination, mind and body together,so to all the guys and girls that have never had a go at this, please try and you will know where I am coming from, you have to clean each window and move at the same time,in under 3 seconds,it has taken me 4 years to break 9.91 seconds, :o

I hope this answers some of your questions,

regards

Terry.. ;)

Terry,

Being half Japanese - I've done my fair share of matial arts and during my time in the army I also boxed; and only lost three fights.

(Might sound impressive, but I only had four fights four mind).

I think your world record is safe from me.

Also, I'm the sort of window cleaner whose always forgetting stuff. I find at the top of the ladder that my T Bar is still in the bucket.  Then I find the bucket is in the last street we did.

Once I forgot where I left my ladders!

Hi Ross, Glad someone else has tried the dishwasher rinse aid, I found it that good I
couldn't keep it to myself. I'll be queueing otside Aldi's when the next batch comes in
I'm still on the first litre bottle,  I had been using it for a week before my magic solution post. Dai

Hi Terry

I thought it was 1 48inch sq window in 9 odd seconds not 3  :o

I'm gob smacked. 3 seconds a window.

I cannot even concieve of that. It takes me that long to think about it.

Hi Dai

Rinse Aid.... The dogs bo**ocks.

I've found a cap full per 2 or 3 pints is best. Anymore than that and it does seem to 'shine' as much. I did try rinse aid on it's own and apart from a seriously sticking blade - it still did a good job.

ROSS: SEEING IS BELIEVING Ive seen and believe in this method,as in a previous posting on this subject it allowed me to have jam on my bread as well,i raise my bucket to Terry.

A Geordie pal of mine once forgot where he parked his car in a car park.  It took him an hour of wandering around looking for it before he realised it had been stolen!

I'm bad; he's worse.

I left my bucket and applicator behind once at a job...but didn't realise until 12 miles later at the next one....(countryside work)....I was a bit miffed !....mind you, can't really do that these day's with the pole now...as everything is attached to the van.... :)

;)in fact 2 .30 seconds a window, just years of hard soild practice, the record is now 9.24 seconds and wipe a sill of course!

And wipe a sill of course. Silly me .................. :o

2.3 seconds doesn't exist. That is the time it takes to think and blink.

I am going to have a bash at one of my front room windows for the next few months. I tried it tonight - 44" by 26". It took me 21 seconds for ONE window.

So Terry, I seriously think your crown is under threat.
