It's not much of a looker,
-
It's a Magic Carpet and it's flown away.
-

-
If I'm seeing it right it looks just like a page of this forum.......
Either that or to much acid used!
-
Someones cleaned it with Vanish ::)

John

If you clean it you will have an interesting time with those fringes. :D
Unless it has a date on (which some do in arabic) you won't pin it down date wise, or maybe to a decade.
i was told never to get embroiled in valuations.
As to where it's from Iranian but region from looking at the design more difficult, but note that it doesn't have a central medallion and is an asymmetric design.
From the pic I'd say it needs a good saturation clean. ;) Maybe Dave could do it for you at the day out?
-
Mike
I’m taking my pressure wash so Dave can take a back seat. ;D
Len
-
I think that's what Dave uses only the show would be over in 10 minutes. ;D
Will be good to see you again Len.
-
As if they cut the fringes off !! is there the same vase at the other end and I think the border around the edge tells the region its from and will give an indercation of age , its no SOUMACK
rem to charge to clean both sides . What price you give em ?
-
Looks like a Kashan rug, from the part of India that is now Pakistan around Lahore
(bukhara)
the border in red would have been bigger with tassles and its worn away to what you see now with exposed cotton. These type of rugs were made specificly for the European/western market and still are.
Value wise, very subjective would need a real expert to look at it but they are very common, it can be repaired to stop the wear into the pattern and another fringe added you could offer this a part of the service.
-
My best guess it's a Kerman c.1930 but I could be very wrong. ;D

This Persian rug is either a “Sarouk” or a “Lilihan”.
“Sarouk” has an overall detached floral in banquet form, medallion and corner pattern for older design.
As for “Lilihan” generally has an overall floral, small medallion with flowers, leaf and ornamental designs.
Either of these two names fit the description depending on how the interpretation goes.
Lilihan is in what used to be called the Kemereh district.
Lilihan is the common term for the rugs of the region.
This rug is in the Hamadan weave and uses the Symetrical knot.
The rugs tend to be similar to Sarouk in color style and thickness.
A Sarouk Rug is a type of Persian rug from the province of Arak.
Lilihans tend to have longer pile which is more attractive for colder regions.
So you can decide which description fits the rug in question better.
And you can't be very far from being wrong!
Persian rug is now only my second love; my first love goes to leather.
It was from the cleaning of fine Persian rugs that I inevitably have to clean luxurious leathers well too.
Fine Persian rugs and luxurious leathers are like Siamese twins that go hand in hand in most high-end homes.
One is incomplete without the other; so when you see one, you see the other too!

Roger (Wilkopeadia) difficult NOT to believe that description Roger. Personally, I know zero about oriental rugs other than ; -
They cost a fortune
They are prone to colour loss
-
Roger thats good but as said a lot of these are copies produced in Pakistan.
-
i know how to clean them safely, isn't that all we need to know?

Of cause it is Derek, but you can be a clever poope if you swot up and tell the customer exactly what they have.
-
John on the swot up side I agree even your just close or in some cases if it sounds good the client will pay £15-£40 sq mtr.
Im on my 1st book of 4 to read and its bloody diff trying to rem .

my mother has one similar bought from turkey
-
Spot on Richard customer thinks it came from Turkey. its been passed down the family from great grand mother , there are a couple of similer rugs that my customers family have got , Job done for customer and paid It wound be nice if I could give them info on there rugs
Thanks John
-
reason i said from turkey is i spent an sfternoon in a rug factory in turkey and picked one up for mum. thing is with turkish ruga they all stick to this bordered patern round the outside and rarely do you see fringes round the edge plus they all seem to have this nice sheen to them
