Title: could anyone give me a little advise re setting up my new domestic cleaning bus

Hi , i am looking into setting up my own domestic cleaning business in the northamptonshire area. i am thinking of house cleaning,oven cleaning perhaps ironing services. Thought about charging £10 an hour but not sure whether due to climate at mo if this is reasonable. not sure about price of oven/ironing .i have got some fliers sorted and am looking into website. can anyone please offer me any advise...appreciate it as its a bit daunting at mo .

Have you had any training in Oven cleaning as it can be costly to rectify mistakes?

I wouldn't charge £10 per hour if you plan on hiring people either now or in the future as you'll lose money at that rate in domestic in my opinion.

It costs us approx £10.50 per hour all in to break even as I pay a good hourly rate to my team.

Hi Karen - My advise would be DONT DO IT  :-\
We provided regular cleaning for 18 months and it was a nightmare. Its a service people want to pay peanuts for, they expect the earth, its difficult to get reliable & good cleaners. We get calls all the time about regular domestic cleaning and I would never go down this route again.

BUT if you want to do it you need to charge £15-£20 per hr to make it worth your while, as already said its not just the hourly rate you pay your cleaner and the difference is profit. take into consideration your time for organising it all, insurance, advertising, time for invoicing, processing wages, dealing with customer queries there's not much left after all that.

Sorry to seem harsh, its just my opinion from my experience.  ;D

suffolkclean is correct in  much of what they say. Hourly rate can be a little lower, say £12.50 for a regular scheduled job.

The main problem is that too many people get in to domestic without doing things properly (legally). They can then charge £10 or less per hour as they have zero costs and whatever they earn goes straight into their back pocket.

No tax, no insurance, no employees, no equipment or chemicals (use the customers). Sometimes you have to wonder!

thanks guys . appreciate the input.. i havent been trained on oven cleaning so perhaps i may leave that one alone at mo.
