One is not amused.
This was in Monday`s Dail Mail.
" For the first time in living memory the Queen has splashed out on a new carpet for the Picture Gallery at Buckingham Palace.
The 156ft long room - the size of two tennis courts has been lavishly re-carpeted at a cost of £250,000 but just two days later disaster struck.
A footman was wheeling a trolley of hot drinks across the pristine carpet when one of the wheels fell off scattering all the beverages.
Despite the best efforts of Palace cleaning staff a huge dark stain proved impossible to remove forcing royal officials to order an entire section of the carpet to be replaced at a cost of £60,000.
An insider said " they spent a WEEK in the gallery trying to remove the stain but instead of making it better, it seems they opened up the fibres of the carpet and made it even worse, it was ruined".
Last night Buckingham Palace confirmed that the new carpet had been spoiled an official said " it left a large stain at one end. Professional cleaners were called in after staff efforts failed but to no avail "
Can you imagine being the " professional" that had to break the bad news.
"Er sorry your majesty its f****d ".
The worst part for our industry is the fact that they viewed a professional as the last resort and not the first person to call.

Sounds like they need a decent trolley maintenance service engineer, or a teasmaid ;D

Dennis
Were they the carpet cleaning professionals called in?

No doubt the Palace cleaning staff will have had the Vanish out and the scrubbing brush and red hot water ???

So far then this carpet has cost us £310,000.00
If they had rang us I would have guaranteed (assuming they had not ruined it) to remove the stain, at a fraction of the cost to the taxpayer.
Nice to know that in times of recession they have got their priorities right.
I think a few of us will know which cleaners Buck House use, they have been cleaning for them for donkeys years and of course hold the royal warrant.

And they would be??

Wonder if they had blood on the carpet if you'd have to reach for stain pro or sodium met?

To be fair to the footman evidently a wheel fell of the tea/coffee trolley onto a brand new 100% wool carpet.
Bearing in mind the tea and coffee were hot and if it all went over and was with hot water etc, what would you think the chances were of getting it out there and then and making it good enough so her Madge or us wouldnt see it.
It would have dyed the carpet immediatly, gone straight through to the backing and you would have had no chance. As was said they had damaged the pile already so you could imagine what they had done to it.
And no, Pilgrim Payne dont do all of her work, ServiceMaster do as well and when I spoke to Chris Straker about it once there are other cleaning Co's there as well. He didnt get the nod to work there as he was too dear!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Servicemaster may have done a couple of jobs at Buck Hse but they do not hold a Royal Warrant,
other than Pilgrims there is only one other company I know that does, there are other cleaning company's but not with a Royal Warrant to clean soft furnishings.
We have done several jobs at various royal homes from time to time but not enough consistantly over a long period of time to apply for a Warrant,
As for the tea stain, if they had been properly trained they could have done the emergency work in such a fashion as to make it possible to remove the stain once a professional was on the scene. With the value of the soft furnishings you would think that they would have a trained in-house team to do just such a thing.
