I'd heard of people using BBQ lighter gel ??? So I got some carpet samples and it bloody worked.... Stinks though ;D It seems to break the chewing gum down to a sludge which is easily extracted.... I use the steam gun instead! A lot easier and less smelly!

Bought a Karcher Steamer hand held one for about £60 from B&Q had a big commercial job before Christmass loads of chewing gum after half an hour on the job binned it to messy and wasnt any quicker took it back to B&Q the next day and got my money back.

I use a steamer with vacuum and water filtration all in one unit.     But a steamer with reasonable pressure could be just as easily combined with a tiny spotter machine to vac away the blasted gum.

You will still need to wipe away the residue I've found the best method to be a towel soaked in orange gel wiped over immediately after breaking the gum up and removing the bulk.
