Post by: richy27 on March 11, 2009, 07:44:52 pm
My first cinema quote tommorow just goin to quote for the lobby tommorow but he did say it wold show me round the whole complex cause there might be the opportunity of doin more work there in the future .  How do you guys do these ones.  Confused over price dont want to be too cheap but on the other hand want the work in this area as i have struggled since starting to get much commercial work.

Regards

Richard

Thought theses were all sown up by the franchise operators? Is it a private one, they pay more!

Me too thought they were with a franchise ???

Richard dont go in to cheap mate just to get the job if he is happy with you and you get a decent price you will get more work.

Can it be a lm clean as it would be perfect for the drying times etc :)

Dont fall for the old trick, him showing you round saying it will all want doing in the future and doing it on the cheap, the future work may never come.

When I say sown up! Franchisees don’t have to be in carpet cleaning. ;)

I'd have thought £1.50 to £1.75 was probably the price for a commercial quote but I take my hat off to him..... He's obviously got the sales patter and no doubt will deliver the goods....

Glad he doesn't live that close to me ;D

I did a commercial today at £5 a metre it was very very bad, infact I've got to do it every 6 weeks or so but at £3 a metre providing it doesn't go over 8 weeks or it goes back upto £5 a metre.

Don't limit yourself to a price before you have seen the work first and be prepared to lose it because some commercials think they are buying our services like they buy paper clips from different suppliers, they often get the contract cleaners to do the work at a lower rate anyhow, I have many a time had to rescue carpets from bad cleans from poor performing contract cleaners with a Puzzi 100.

Richard,

What ever you do, DO A DYE CHECK ACROSS THE CARPET FIRST. I once went to quote on a local Cinema, Manager unhappy with the previous Cleaners. I did several checks across the areas. (Wool heavily patterned like a jigsaw design). The Reds & Blues were totally loose. Do have a check

You would then need to think about  pricing in a rinse/ spray  to fix the dye and ensure you get the result and don't inherit  the previous cleaners problem,

We have cleaned loads of cinemas and always LM clean if you have access to such a system use it over extraction the end product is the same on such heavy footfall carpet but with out the dangers of split seams, odours and other associated problems you may inherit. Also its agreat sales tool, you can tell the Manager the cinema will be available for immediate access after cleaning.

I would use a rotary with Charly pads and M-power for speed if not DF or Texatherm.

Have you agreed payment terms?  Cinema chains are notoriously bad payers we once waited 6 months for payment, I would get this confirmed before commencing the work.

We have also cleaned the seats in cinemas the largest being 3000 or so, now if you really want a soul destroying back breaking job this is the one.Much better to secure the work and sub it out.

On the subject once on a visit to inspect some damaged carpets at the Print Works in Manchester I watched as the carpet cleaners turned up to clean the first floor foyer carpets. In about 5 minutes I realised why I was there inspecting, I have to say it was hillarious watching these muppets attempt to work the machinery as they first flooded the carpet with water and then tried to extract without the vacs turned on   :o  As they pushed and pulled the water around the carpet I could bear it no more and went over and switched the vacs on for them, then walked away headshaking as they struggled to pull the wands across the carpet. Quality.

The Manager informed me later that the foyer took 2 days to dry and the smell lingered for more than a week but guess what, the main contractor was kept on because as part of the overall package the carpet cleaning cost just .50p a sq mt. this is what we are up against as carpets are,in some quarters, just not considered a priority.

Confirmed with them that it was payment on completion and they seemed fine with that and said he would have a cheque waiting for me when i get there. All seems to good to be true

I'm still waiting for them to sort my flyers out, they said the art work would be done by today :(

Have you done any upholstery work yet? I'm doing my own sofa (Again) soon and I'm gone protect it too, you're more than welcome to come over to have a practice ;D

I'm doing a 3 bed house and their oven tomorrow, 3rd time I'll have turned up, 1st time no gas, 2nd time no electricity.... Could have really done with a TM ::)

Is it LM or HWE cleaning?

If it's HWE you want more money as it's harder work and takes longer, if it's LM you could do it and make a nice profit for an easy day at £450 or even £500 but to do 1000sq m in 1 day with your 2nd hit on your own will be hard work! take a friend pay him £75 and add it to £450 and have a laugh.

Still Derek is right but how far can you go with prices and still keep the work? open ended answer.

Shaun

Shaun , the norm was hwe , but using Dry F & LM , meeting a fellow cc there and im going 50/50 for a few reasons but the main 1 is this could be a beautiful bud ready to grow ( like the belly ) into a flower .
need to see the fellow cc in action for more work if something Ive been working on for bloody months comes off .
