First job 2 bed coach house type thing, empty nothing to move all good, set up machine at bottom of stairs, coming down with 10ltr of water, caught on door frame, poured all over my legs :(.
Much shouting and swearing later, and going over my jeans with upholstery tool to dry them a bit, started working, gave my vac hose a good tug to reach the far corner, hose caught on radiator and yanked it off the wall,so it fell on the floor, lucky it was plastic micro bore and didn`t break, put it back all ok phew.
Got to my next job,old lady had died and her daughter was clearing out all her stuff, would it be ok if i just gave her a hand moving a few things down to the garage, said yeah ok no prob, turns out it was most of her posesions i was movin, beds wardrobes, sideboard,tv the lot, bags of clothes everything :( not happy, but got £25 for my trouble
Booked another 2 for this week so it`s starting to look up,might even get out of my overdfaft this week ;D

i would of thought that "one of those days" for you! would be a normal boring day where nothing went wrong :)
derek
-
Thats what i thought ;D
Try shell pants in black they dry v quickly :)
-
Mark
Overdraught :o
-
Mark,
Be careful you dont get wet knees and kneel on a carpet and the dye runs.
Bet once they are wet they take ages to dry.

There's a guy I know he wears cut of jeans, maybe that's the compromise Mark. :)
-
I thought that jeans had always been workwear. Isn't that what they are for?
-
Yep thats true, but jeans never dry out, they are cotton and hold moisture and as above they are dyed.
Carpet fitter type trousers are best, hard wearing and look good with a polo shirt.

Yeah they take ages to dry out, allways soak myself when doing upholstery too :( need to carry a change of clothes with me ;D
Just had my heat and run in bits,i also took out the bottom connection and cleaned out all the old silicon and put some fresh stuff in there (also managed to get it all down my leg,and all over the kitchen sink ) and did the thing up really nice and tight, hoing to leave it to dry out next to the fire this eve, then give it a good spray of wd40 or similar fish oil, then connect it back up and run it at pressure before i turn it on to heat, crossing everything that it works, don`t enjoy cleaning without it.although i didn`t really see any noticable difference not having it

Mark
Might be good to buy another amte as it might cause more damage in customers house ???
-
How do you manage to soak yourself when cleaning upholstery?
-
Roger me too was thinking that ???
You might need a new set up mark :)
-
fine mist from upholstery tool, fans out bigger than the pick up.
You might need a new set up mark
Starting to think that myself !
Might even be able to afford it if i keep booking work like i have thease last few days ;D

Mark
Do you kneel down and use the upholstery as a work surface or do you construct a work bench so that you can stand up and work?
Roger
-
Roger
The operating table ;)
-
I tend to flip it over, onto the front to do the back and vise versa, loving the sound of raising it up though, maybe with a crate under each end so it`s a bit higher off the ground ?
-
Yes Clinton the operating table. What else would a surgeon work on?
Mark
Easier than that. Ideally put 2 armchairs back to back or side by side (can also work with sofas) and put a board (mine's about 3 x 2 ft) across the back of the 2 chairs or across the arms.
Hey presto a work surface which allows you to stand, save getting wet and more importantly save your knees. You also look more professional.

You can get the decorators tables for a few quid :)
-
You obviously work in some big rooms to allow you to put a decorator's table up as well as your equipment.
-
How much equipment do you have Doctor? Or do you just work in particularly small homes on Liliput Lane? ;D
-
I'm old fashioned and kneel on the floor and clean the cushions on the base of the sofa, perhaps I need knee glides.
I once had a decorators table but it wobbled around too much for my liking so it got relegated to the garage.
I used to prop the 3 seater sofa up against one of the arm chairs and use the back of it as a table but customers don't like it.

Roger
I dont use a table i use the same trusted method as shaun :)
Dont even need an overspray sheet ;)

Ho ho!
No I have my Ninja and hoses (hose bag). 2 blowers and therefore space to use them to dry the cushions (and not pointing at radiators) and obviously you need to place the dried cushions somewhere out of the way whilst working on the rest of the suite.
Shaun
Can't say I've ever had any complaints about my method. Any comments received have usually been admiring about coming up with a creative method of working.
Perhaps it's my good bed-side manner when treating the patient that does it. Or perhaps it's because my clients aren't so sophisticated this side of the Pennines. ;D
-
Probably thinking I'm looking for coins to fall out of the bottom.

I do them on the floor or I should say on my drip sheets. Youve got to use drip sheets it doesnt look professional if you dont. Mind you these heavy duty cotton sheets from various supplyers are so absorbant they are a waste of time. I got mine from a tarpaulin manufacturer, very heavy duty canvass. The more you wet them the tighter the weave becomes and you can literally pour water on them and nothing gets through. Ive used these for nearly 30 years and they last ages. Last one I got was approx 4 x 4mtr 6 years ago cost around £120 . I cut this in half to make two pieces and they are still going strong, I throw them over the top of the TM to dry which doesnt take long, also acts as a noise muffler.

I use large bath sheets, folded over and just have them under the area i am working.Have got through too many of the tarps from Prochem, end up using them to lay on when i am working on the car :(

Thats what i do, tip a chair on its front against the sofa and use the back of the chair. It was a tip i picked up by one of the trainers on a Prochem course years ago, never had any complaints ???

Wouldnt take tables in to peoples living room ???
-
I use something similar to this http://www.campers-universe.com/camping_picnic_tables/single-aluminium-folding-camping-picnic-tables.php works a treat and just the right size. Mine is a bit wider but you get the idea. I tend to do cushions first so they can be drying whilst I do the base units.
