I've been using the A4 day to page diaries from WH Smith for the last few years. As usual, here we are in March and it's falling apart. I need to get another 10 months out of this, I hate turning up to a quote with a diary held together by sellotape!
Any have recommendations for something a bit sturdier? I'd rather pay £20-£30 for a diary that lasts all year than £10 for one that I have to mend before it's even Easter!
-
And I thought it was only me that it happened to. :-[
But there again I get mine from Staples and they only cost about £4.
Ah ha. Jim, I have a solution....
Buy 4 cheaper ones from Staples and use each for only 3 months. ;D
-
You can also get 6 month diaries !
-
Jim
Thats the good thing with diaries they have there own personality :)
I can always look back at mine from years ago and can find what the job was like etc i find the better that storing all the info on my pc ;D
Usually by xmas its falling to bits from falling of the van when driving of with it still on the roof ;D
-
the resason they fall apart is the glue comes unstuck, I use A4 ringbinded. never have a problem
mike
-
Thanks guys :)
Where do you get your ringboinded diaries from Mike?
-
I got this years from staples. I have a nice leather coat for it which keeps it good condition through out the year
-
Ah, thanks for that Mike :)
You must write very small and neatly!! My writing is big and scrappy, I'd struggle with 3 days per page :(
I also like to be able to read info on the page when I'm driving, which is why big writing on a big page is handy.
Certainly food for thought though, I may try one of these out and see how it compares. Thank you :)
-
This was my Monday and Tuesday a couple of weeks ago.... I'd never manage it on 1/3 of a page!!!

Jim.
I use a code system to keep things tidy
for a 9am appointment I circle the 9am If the job is going to take 2hrs I put a line from the 9am-11am
if for some reason I can't arrive before the exact time I booked the appointment ( eg;they will not get home until the exact time) I put a heavy circle around the time.
I only put booked jobs on the times, all quotes are numbered and written in the 'notes' at the bottom of the page with their quote number next to the time its booked for.
an exact price is underlined a estimate has a question mark next to it.
plus few others to tell me more info on the customer

I've got a Collins diary infact I've had one for the last 2 years and they last until October/November with a simular bashing to what you put your sthrough by the looks of things.

You could all move into this century and get yourself a blackberry ;D
Mike did I see a feather quill in that photo ?? ::)
TOP TIP - For £20 per month, with no hidden extras get blackberry push e mail service & unlimited blackberry data (full internet browsing)with no contract, just set up a monthly direct debit, this can be canceled at any time.
1 - Buy a blackberry curve 8310 one thats locked to 02, ( got mine on e-bay, best to look for one that's been recieved via an 02 works contract phone, mine was brand new ) don't risk buying one that says unlocked to any network it might not work, should have the 02 badge on front, bottom part of phone.
2 - Get a £20 per month 02 simplicity sim, this includes 600 minutes and 1200 texts ( you can always have your existing mobile number switched over )
3 - Heres the important bit !! - ask for the " Blackberry data" bolt on (this is not advertised or listed as a bolt on so you can't apply online as its not in the drop down menu. Be persistant, it seems not many 02 staff acknowledge it's existence, I rang several times only to be told I needed to pay another £10 or so per month for the blackberry option, in the end I went into an 02 shop and got someone who knew about it, they made a quick call and within 48 hours the blackberry data bolt on was up and running.
I've had mine since December and it works fine, you can add several e-mail addresses for the push e-mail service at no extra charge.
* For anyone who doesn't know what push e-mail means - A copy of your e-mail is sent straight to your mobile, instantly - just like recieving a text and you can reply to the e-mail with your blackberry mobile.
Hope this is of some use to you old duffers !! ;)

Trouble is some of these old duffers can't see the keys!
Takes me longer to type than write when I'm on the phone answering calls and inputting onto my phone look stupid typing into my ear.

Hi Guys
I've got a blackberry and an A4 diary, split personality ;D
My Diary used to fall apart before I bought a case , zipped which my diary lives in.
I now have the Filofax one, it looks smart and you can keep lots of bits together.
Cheers

Same here am a one finger typer ;D
-
I must admit I hate having the bluetooth in my ear, I went for the smallest I could find but I still feel a right Di** head.
Having said that, writing in your heavy duty, indistructable, diary, you could have it mistaken for a filofax :o - You'll not only look a di** head, but a di** head that's stuck in the 1980's surely that's even worst !! ;D

Hi Guys
One year my diary really disintegrated.
I put it on the van roof while I unlocked the door, forgot about it and drove off.Luckily I had not gone far when I realised my mistake and went back, however dear diary had ben run over several times and was very mangled :'(
Cheers

One time in a rush I put it in the solution tank ::)
Yes, poured 10Lts over it.
Same job, got a parking fine. Forgot to get the ticket.
Sometimes I worry about myself.

I once took my son out to a play park and left my diary there a kind lady from near Goole picked it up and rang me to say that she had found it instead of handing it in.

Changed to A4 Filofax last year with day to page diary, notebook, plain paper, contacts, to do list, etc, etc.
Looks smart and everything is in one book, I normally keep 2 months of diary in the book at any one time and just replace it as the year goes on.
Works well for me.
-
I used to have a Vodaphone vpx but found the problem was remembering where it was leaving it at customers eventually its face got smashed in
Did use it for two years.
What about about a notebook
You can have your presentations

I thought you may have spoken to Andy about it not the seller, sounds good though I often thought about doing it that way when I saw zerogum.co.uk trailer I thought what a great idea, you could utilise your jeep more.

never used a diary . micro soft office 2007, planners
12 A4 sheets jan-dec , each sheet has dates from 01- end of month running down the left hand side , across the top : NAME START--FINISH X 4
then I use lead sheets, 2 types dom & com , this all fixes together on clip board , client can see jobs booked and relise you have bookings all month . helps get good price & CPs IMO
pre printed jan -- dec in the filing cab sectioned off with all the pre booked jobs for each month
