Those loverly peeps are GAPS namely June....have just advised that my HF5-4040 and bits are on the way....so...when I get it all I shall be putting together a picture 'walk through - set up' which I hope will help others...but until I am...expert enough ;)
Does anyone have any information about putting together a 4040 system...or indeed any other information such as filter changing periods, etc, etc
My new setup will be to supply me and another w/c with water...
So here are the parts that I shall be using:
HF5-4040 membrane (+housing).
2x 20'' prefilter housings.
2x 13l DI vessels....(may seem overkill but I have my reasons).
1 x 12v Solenoid cutoff switch.
1x Horizontal float switch for the above.
1x Pressure guage
2x inline tds meters.
2x Water meters.
* All the fittings are the Hozelock style so getting spares will be a question of nipping to the local DIY store.
1 x 12v bilge pump (for filling backpack/trolley or emptying van tank)
Things still to get:
toggle switch for the cutoff switch & bilge pump so I can turn them on/off when required.
Insultation for pipes.
The idea is to be able to make water whilst my van is in the carport and in the event that I have really big water usage days/large jobs I can then place the membrane board into the van and make water whilst on site....
So in the mean time if anyone has any tips and tricks with regard to usage or installation I shall be jolly gratefull.
Oh and not to forget Mike at Varitech is a really good chap to advise on things like cutoff switches/floats and the like...
Cheers
Dave.

bump....anyone have any thoughts on this?
Cheers
Dave.

hi dave , cant really offer any further advice, except to say I have the same membrane from Gaps, its very straight forward to set up and I doubt you'll be dissapointed. It has been the most worthwhile upgrade (from a merlin) to my business.
Good luck with it.
Simon

hi pingu, hope all goes well with the set-up,could you tell me how much better the 4040 is compared to the 300 from r-o man,is the waste lower,i know the production is mammoth, but could you possible hint at the cost of a full 4040 set-up,,many thanks....kev
-
use chloreplus carbon filters, you get far more product water between changes
-
Will be getting my HF5 40x40 RO on monday, this RO is the latest technology and works at very low pressure it has no rivals at the moment and is set to be industry standard.A single membrane will produce 200-250ltrs an hour un pumped lol, that`s like having a twin RO setup.
-
Here is a picture of the 12v solenoid and horizontal float switch.
You may notice on the solenoid cutoff unit the numbers 1 & 2...I am assured that '1' is the inlet and '2' is the outlet.
Thanks for the additional info NWH...I picked this membrane so I could do away with the need for a pump...just trying to create a system with fewer bits and pieces but as you know when you remove something from the chain you end putting something else back in ;D
Cheers

pingu i want to build my own system ive been looking at streamline and seems to be a lot of money can you tell me who gaps is and my water tds is 228
-
I will also need to get 1 of those, where did you get yours from.

www.gapswater.co.uk if your buying an RO get the new HF5 membrane it will produce far more water than you`ll need twice the amount of a merlin and almost twice the amount of a standard 40x40 at even low pressure.
-
i cant thank you enough im just trying to work something out with ro system ,adds up to over £1800 thats with me buying bits from here and bits from there and building my own.
-
My kit cost me about £600 i think without the 1000ltr tank from gardiners,£1800 that`s not for an RO kit i hope.
-
yes ro kit with pole hose brushtank pump
-
were is gaps water are they in uk
-
Yes there in the uk,you are paying to much.
-
i ve not payed a penny yet
-
what tank do i get my van mesures at between wheel arch 41" 58"long 45"high inside i know about the 400 ltrs what would you pay
-
ccmids....sounds as if you are 'surrounded' with alot of choices..I suppose the best bet would to try and assess what you really need now...as in today and say the next 6 months and then try to 'guess' where you want to be in relation to work/hours/water usage in say 2 years.
If you could put that down on a post, I should imagine other users would be able to be a little more exact in their idea's and opinions of what would be best for you.
But in the meantime here are a few suppliers that may help you.
www.cleantech.co.uk
www.gapswater.co.uk
www.brodexbms.co.uk
http://exelsystems.co.uk (*Andrew McCann - great guy & very helpfull)
http://www.clearviewplus.com
http://www.windowcleaningwarehouse.co.uk
http://www.varitechcatalogue.com/
There are of course loads of other suppliers but this may help you out...

thankyou dave i see your builing your own too im going for the same as you from gap it sounds like you know were your going with this so ill follow the tips from yourself and the others .
i have no plan just want to make it a bit easyer for myself , by that i mean do ups with pole down with trad .
i saw your posts on here and had a look at gaps it looks good . in all i think it will cost me about £1.400 thats with pole hose and everything
i have put a post on here headed is this too much and no one has said it is yet so it must be a good signe.
-
To be honest...the pole/brush is the real biggy..I could wait 24 hours to make 400 litres of water and all the mucking around with using a static tank/pump etc....but the pole and brush for me has to be light....
The attatched piccy's were of a garden center I cleaned part of this morning...having a light pole and brush made it easier on the body.. ;D
Any reason you want to pole up and trad down?
Cheers
Dave.

Here is a pic of the TDS meter and adapter for normal Hozelock style hose.
Cheers
Dave.
-
I've got all that from cleantech £550 from cleantech made up. How much was yours?
If you want a pic to help assemble i can put one up if you like.
-
i see what you meen
-
i think the tds meter is hand held from gap comes with kit
-
Think you're right..the kit does come with a handheld tds meter and they are the type I have used for the past couple of years and to be honest they do the job as well as any other type...
Dave.
-
all sorted varitech can do the lot for £1.450 thats pole tank everything to get me started ,
-
The main part of my order has arrived from Gaps on a pallet today...so when I have some time I shall be putting it all together and making a photo diary of the 'fit'.
But I presume that will be sometime in the next 3 weeks or so.
Cheers to all.
Dave.
-
varitech said he can mach gaps with the same RO .
-
Good luck ccmids....wfp is a good way of working...ok it has it's quirks and it can become frustrating at times...but what would the fun be if it all went smoothly all the time?
Cheers
Dave.
-
how long you done wfp, and have you built one before
-
varitech said he can mach gaps with the same RO .
To match them he would have to supply a HF5.
-
thats what he said he can match it
-
Mike is a top bloke and knows his stuff he won`t let you down.
-
it was someone called richard i spoke to he seemed to know what he was on about , its just a case of putting it all together when i get it .
-
They all know there stuff, quality products like Gardiners.
-
do you know if you can clean inside a swimming pool house with wfp , i meen it wont contaminate the water would it.
-
do you know if you can clean inside a swimming pool house with wfp , i meen it wont contaminate the water would it.
You could just turn the flow down and squeeggee the excess water into a puddle and then mop it up,it`s not the water that would contaminate the water it`s the dirt that will go into the pool with it.
-
yes but wouldnt the pool filters clean that
-
Eventually they would but what would the custie say, there would have to be a lot of glass for me to do it that way or they would have to be high.I do a couple of large pools inside of houses and they have the heating flat out it`s like being in barbados on 1 of there hot days. ;D
-
lots of glass to clean , yes its a big place and yes very warm when you do it trad its murder , feel like jumping in the pool some times. hope the pole system makes things easy for me when its done.
some windows i cant do becouse they are up high in the apex of the house you know those big triangle windows
-
Hi ccmids...I have been wfp around 2,5 years and have not put a complete system together..so it'll just be following the idiot guide...lets face it there is not a lot to it...just getting the right connections and ensureing they fit in the right order.
...................he says now!
Cheers
Dave.
-
he said he was going to put diagram with order so things can be a bit easyer.
-
can only get 350 ltr tank in van , how long will that last me .
-
Water input into pre filters.
After pre filters water into RO.
On the other end of the RO waste goes out of the bottom of the RO and the good water comes out of the end.
1 end of the RO should be closed off this is where the membrane goes with the taped line on the membrane being the last to go in,push in tight and replace the white clip.
-
You should also have a pressure gauge before first pre filter and also 1 after 2nd filter this tells you tap pressure before pre filter and water pressure before RO.
-
ill make sure i get them thanks didnt know that
-
Found these nifty little connectors at my local garden center...no leaks whatsoever..unlike those Hozelock thingy's...
Cheers

Dave.
You have good pressure, better than me at the moment.
-
I am finding that the pressure difference can be very big....from 40 to 60...
-
It does that until the bedding in process is over the pressure drops and then suddenly rises,it`s happened more with mine today as it`s not used enough yet.
-
Just been out fettling in the shed and putting together the backing board for my 4040 system...am building it with the recent -12 to -15 deg temps we had here (Holland)...
I'll be fitting a small boat tube heater with a thermofrost (thermostat) so that it'll start heating at around 3 deg....
Am putting it all together with the cold in mind as I said previously...so all the hoses will be drainable to stop freezing also.
It'll never be the flashest thing out there am building it as far as I can with scraps.
Cheers
Dave.
-
dave, got bored searching, and this was all i could find...wheres the rest of the pics of your system?! 8)
