How is the reccession affecting you guys as my w/c business got very quiet >:(

has had an impact on me too but rather than sit and do nothing I just try to carry on building and is getting harder, I lost 3 yesterday and picked up 2, lost loads in december and january quite a few have changed to 8 weekly (which I really dont mind at all) if we can get customers in a reccession I cant wait for it to be over because they will flood in again more than at the moment.

I am not doing too bad. But we also do cleaning contracts. However I do here many window cleaners losing jobs. Lots of them. Mainly the ones in commercial shop fronts are suffering the most I think.
But I am sure lots will say business is better than ever. Which I wont disbelieve, but I am sure people have had to lower prices.
Onwards and upwards...let hope

Im picking up more work through being recommended and stopped on street than ever before!!
I also got asked by a chap (think hes my custies bfriend) to canvass his street as there is no wc, did that and got 2 big 4 bed detatcheds!!! Only have a few windows though :) And i was only out collecting last night but picked up over £30 worth of work a month!!!
As soon as i can find a damn canvasser i will be hoping to double my work load, but there is no one about, i thought 3 million were un employed - it isnt affecting canvassers!!

recession what recession. busier than ever, no credit cards no loans no worries.
Lost one or two small shops but they were easy to replace with a couple of houses.

The honest answer is the ressession is affecting everyone, and yes, more people wanted 8 weekly cleans, some dropping you etc is all things you should expect, but the main thing I think is to stay possitive.
Just because there is a ressession it doesnt mean that people are stopping spending completely and it doesnt mean that you wont get more works and customers if you look for it, its just means that they will be alittle harder to find.
With the likes of Woolworth's demise I bet Argos are better than expected and certainly will rake it in come chistmas, and there success will be because they ran a more productive and profitable business that was able to ride the storm longer than Woolworths.
Window cleaners are exactly the same, even though there are many newbies popping up at the momment, there ones that are saying business is terrible at the momment are the ones that may go and the ones that get out and just work that little bit harder to find the customers are the ones that will ride this storm.
So my input is dont dwell on the effects of the ressession, just get out and get on with it, do everything you can and give everything you have got and you will find success in a time when it is a rare thing.

well answered ladd garder, that is exactly how I feel things are. Being topical I have spoken to lots of customers about the credit crunch and business, nearly all of them will be able to sit it out for the next year or so with no big worries.
I wish the press would shut up about it, they must have cost the country millions in lost revenue by scaring people into not spending.

Ive only lost a couple due to the crunch and expect to lose a few more.
Only a couple of weeks ago Squeeky said he hasn't lost any and there is no recession where he lives. :o
THAT is so short sighted because altho there may not be any big employers around his way there are lots of pensioners in that area who will really struggle with this crunch and also there are millions of people not making money on thier savings (even in Chepstow) and will look to cut back.
We need to ride this crunch out with our eyes open and hopefully get through it.

I have lost a few job this last week not many though and each customer i lost cancelled because they have lost there job.
I have another one i expect to lose as he told me that he is losing his job in two months.
He said he wants me to carry on with his windows but i know if things get tight for him he will cancel.
On the upside i am also still picking up the odd job.
My youngest son lost his job due to cutbacks last week so i plan on putting out some leaflets this week and have him working with me.
he is taking driving lessons so when he eventually passes his test i will get him an escort van or something similar and give him his own round.

Good replys guys, I'd imagine there will alot more window cleaners on the road now, as so many lost their jobs and need to make a few pound.
I have lowered the price for a few of my customers, that way im not losing them altogether , i got plenty of tips from them when things where going well.

I picked up a new customer because I try and stay positive, happy go lucky attitude, which my new customer notices when I clean opposite him. Customer asked me to clean his property without even asking for a price first simply because his previous window cleaner was always looking miserable and gave off a very negative attitude to him all the time. His loss, my gain.

the bigest thing about this reccessionis going to be who can take an oppertunity
when it smacks you in the face ie not priceing to low to make a profit
i didnt get where i am today by being cheap.
and look at me fiat doblo to call my own own house and this time next year i may buy some carpets
