They keep trying to ring me at the moment, I'll give them the two finger treatment to be honest.... Do you ever use Yell.com yourself, or do you Google things?

They are now offering a call monitoring system that I can veiw at any time, any call made from a dedicated yell number is transfered directly to my own number along with the number of veiws, they say if calls are not made a reveiw of my listing will be made :-\  re. reducing payment. hmmm not sure.

I have found that Yell.com doesnt work that well for domestic work, however i have had some great office jobs from it so i would say that for £300 its worth every penny mate, give it a try.

Geoff

Have a chat with Pete Sweeney, he knows all about Yell - he got a load of us a deal last year.

He can give you the best advice and if you do it through him it won't cost you anything like £300.

I got the same deal but at £185, went for it but no calls yet ::)I would not have done at £300 but I was sure I should get £185 back. Then again ??? but it is early days.

I think the deal Geoff (Wrightson) has been offered is a very good one.
Much better then the one I was offered.
He kept ringing me but would not budge on his offer, neither I on my decision not to go with it.
Maybe we both are losers. ???
Perhaps the pricing depends on the area that will be covered, but I would imagine Hull is pretty similar to Warrington?

Same here joe sounds like a good deal.

Might put the money in to another web site rather than give the money to yell ???

Being with yell. com  for about 5 months now and what a waste of money wish i could get out of the contract . After 3 months got in contact with them as i had not had 1 single call of the site , they said 240 had searched for carpet cleaners in my area and i must have had some calls was the reply. so now they changed my number so they can log the  number of calls i recieve and guess what in the last 2 months  still nothing   £287 this cost  me ,what a waste  they had a great salesman on the phone and i fell for it    never again will i use yell

I think you would be better off  investing that £300 into your own website such as a adword campaign or updating the SEO.This would give you a much better return.

Just had the call from my rep, booked a meeting with her on monday, have told her it`s not looking good (for them,in terms of me spending anything) didn`t sound happy at that,so guess the decay must be spreading.
Had had trouble with my adds last year,so they halved my payment, still not got anything from it.
Supposed to be in 2 books  this year,1 in print and another one due to come out,but judging by the lack of contact from 1st 1 i am thinking of pulling the plug,as it`s a saturated area already, about 7 pages of c,cers

Dont think many use the y pages any more and the more y pages i see now still wrapped up is increasing, found about ten of them just the other day in some flats from last yr at the door :o

Am going to put the money towards another web site as this will bring me more work in :)

Y pages was a great tool up to about 4 or 5 years ago.

I had heard that Yell.com could be the next one to go!!! They are really struggling. To expensive and when you ask most people what search engine they use the answer 9 out of 10 is google, these boys have it sewn up, as that's the one to get to the top off.....

i had another call today from the same pleasant lady asking me if I had made a decision,

I went on to tell her of my doubts, re. some of the replys posted on here, I quoted the reply " same offer for £185 "   her reaction was thats not possible and the likelihood is that offer was for their own postcode area, apparently the offer I was made is to cover any area starting with hu and yo not that I want to go that far and not just my own postcode,  was virtualy guaranteeing me calls,  :-\  adding I had cause for recompansation if I did not recieve any ;D

Geoff.

so still not decided, think she might start getting a bit peeved when she rings tommorow

I had Thompsons round the other day, go into 1 book and you get the other half price, and 50 search engines (what ever that means)for 2 credit card sized ads it was going to cost me 2k inc VAT.

However what I'm thinking is, theres not that much coming in now from directories as I allways ask where they got my name from, and am I better off putting that money into  good online push paying through adwords etc etc.

Got 2 months to make my mind up before going to print what do you think directories or online?

My best form of ads last year was local papers.
Went the Thomson route but that so far as just about covered the cost since June last year.
Still a bit hit and miss at the moment, run off my feet last week but only work left this week is a full day Friday and 2 booked for next week.

IMO if you got 3 jobs for £300 that is not bad.
Should have got your money back on those 3 jobs, plus repeat business, plus referals.

It's a toughy, but you'll pay a lot less for a web design and hosting. Online wins hands down mate. Next year I will not advertise in either Thomson or YP and will put my money into a supa doopa web site and hosting. The local directory is good, I might have a full page in that for next year...

The local paper wound me up because I asked them to suspend my ad with immediate effect and they ignored my email. So they can do one ;D I owe them a few quid too, but they can wait.....
