Whats wrong with 123-reg? I have used them in the past with no problems.

I currently use 1and1 though (www.1and1.co.uk)

put complaints 123.reg in google ,and you will see , i bought  domains from them they took the money now 2 domains are registered to someone else , cant get no joy from them .

What actually seems to have been the problem? If you registered a UK name ie .co.uk then it would not be possible for them to change the register as all uk names go through nominet which you have full control over the domain yourself. You will also be sent by nominet in the post a certificate saying you own the domain which you purchased?

try http://freeola.com/ good on prices i have 2 names with them no probs at all. dave
